Once a user's account has been created, access to the portal is by the Land Registry website.
There's two ways to access this. The first way is by selecting the Log in to Business
e-Services link. The second way is from the drop down menu
from the professional signpost. The general Business e-services page is then displayed
and you can login by using the link on the right hand side or using the 'sign in' link
here. This is the Portal login screen that you'll
see every time you want to login. The first time you log in you'll need the username and
password given to you from your Business unit Administrator. Press login. As it's the first
time you've logged in, you'll need change the temporary password. The password must
comply with the rules shown here in the screen, otherwise the system will reject it. Enter
the old password and then the new password you want, confirm it here and then click change.
After this you'll come to the Initialise Inactive user screen. You need to create the answers
to three questions known as Shared secrets. These are used as a security check if you
ever need to reset your password. Choose the question from the drop down menus and in the
answer fields type your answer. You then need to save the answers. The next screen asks
you for the security token. This is where you will need to enter your One Time Password
security token sent to you by Land Registry, this is an example of one. The token is used
to generate a unique code number that you need to enter. Each number can only be used
once. To generate it, hold down the button on the front of the token for a few seconds
until an 8 digit number appears. You need to enter this in the field and select login
within 60 seconds of generating the code. If for some reason you generate 10 numbers
on the token without verifying any of them on the system, the token will be locked and
you'll need to follow the onscreen instructions to unlock it.
When the system has accepted your details, the My Portal home page is displayed. This
will appear whenever you login. The signposts on the left show the services available according
to your role. Check that your current despatch details are
correct, and if they're not you can change this using the alternative despatch address
function from the Administrative services signpost.
When you've finished all your tasks in the portal you must make sure you logout using
the link in the corner of the screen.
