Being given the chance to have scholarships
because of these donations from UH alums makes
me want to give back because it helps us be able
to have labs like this one and work hands-on
with very expensive equipment. And it helps us
study different materials, Young’s modulus.
And it really helps us characterize different
materials, which is something that can help us
in the field, so it gives us an idea of what’s
going on a molecular level. Comparing different
metals, breaking them down, we get to split
the metals apart and then look at them under
a microscope, so it’s something we can use
in the real world and obtain more hands-on
experience this way. With the scholarship
money I was receiving, it helped me to focus
on my studies rather than try to work during
that time. And what that did for me was
make me grow, make me focus on my major,
and really, it put me into the mentality
of an engineer I think, so that helped me a
lot in my engineering career. It definitely makes
me want to give back because for some of us,
we may not be here otherwise.
