in this example, we're asked to find all the factors of 24 and if you read the
information at the top of the screen here
the factors of a number are
those numbers that divide
the given number evenly with remainder zero
so let's see if we can
develop a systematic process
for finding all of the factors of 24
so I'm going to star by writing the number twenty four
and I'm going to write twenty-four as one
times
twenty-four so there are two factors of twenty four
I'm going to build-up on the left hand side
so two times twelve there are two other factors of twenty four
the next on the left I can divide three into twenty four so three times
eight is twenty four
I'm going to build up one more to give me four
times and four times six would be twenty four
if i go a little higher five doesn't go into twenty four
six goes into twenty four but then i would be repeating the numbers that i
have over here
so let's just make a nice list
and
write the information this way
factors of twenty four
and let's make a list
with commas in between so let's start from
the upper left
two three four
and then go over to the right
six
eight
twelve
and finally twenty-four so a process like this wil make sure that you have a
complete list
of the factors for any number that you're looking at
