Most schools let their students bring water bottles such as this container
right here. But what if they were really bringing something like this:
A Kru *** bottle which looks similar and fits in the same compartment.
As soon as Rockford Alcohol Free Teens found out about this,
they immediately took action.
They lobbied with their local elected officials in getting this look alike product
removed from the shelves of a local retailer,
while also alerting the community of the potential dangers of this product
through their social network sites and a press release.
This is just one of the many successful efforts led by R.A.F.T.,
in reducing underage drinking in their community.
[Narrator] If you had the power to change one thing about Lincoln County,
what would that one thing be?
[Respondent] Drugs. The young drug use and abuse.
Alcohol and substance abuse, because that's a really big problem
where I come from.
I'd like to help stop violence and bullying.
I would change...
the drugs and everything. If I had the power to do that,
like take all the drugs out, I would.
MANO Coalition is making alliances with neighborhood organizations.
MANO has really been helping us a lot with our drug and alcohol prevention.
MANO is a coalition with several partners. What we do is provide substance abuse
and alcohol awareness to middle schools to elementary schools.
And we're doing a lot of education through different projects and special events.
Hey! Did you know it's "Kick Butts Day?" And 99% of Barrington Middle School
students don't use tobacco products?
Three main reasons why are:
One, it's unhealthy. [Gasp]
Two, I choose not to. I do other fun things with my friends.
[Cheering]
Three. I prefer to hang out with people that don't smoke because I don't
like the way it smells.
I'm the 99%. I'm the 99%. I'm the 99%.
We're the 99%.
And we kick butts today!

Our summer camp is one of our most exciting programs at the agency. It's our
"Project Focus Summer Camp," and it's an opportunity for children who have been
impacted by a loved one's addiction. It may be a cousin; it may be a sibling;
it may be a step-parent that is addicted to substances and may be struggling.
Their loved one may also be in recovery, and it's an opportunity for children
to come together, and see that they're not different;
that there are lots of other children and teenagers that have been impacted
by a loved one's addiction; and they learn really key skills.
I didn't cause it.
I can't cure it.
I can't control it.
But I can help take care of myself...
by communicating feelings...
and celebrating myself.
My name is Mark Simpson.
I'm the Prevention Coordinator of Higher Dimension Church Office of Community
Empowerment. We serve a community that is high risk.
Over 80% of the residents live below the poverty line.
Drug use and prostitution is rampant in this area.
And to top it all off, there are little to no services available to them.
Through the funds that we receive from SAMHSA, our community center has
become an oasis of services to this community.
We're able to provide drug prevention, drug awareness, *** prevention,
*** awareness, *** testing, absolutely free to this community.

[Narrator] What does Prevention mean to you?
A one-word answer for Prevention to me as town manager here
in Raymond can be summed up in one word; and that word is "Community, "
With a capital "C."
