Sounds of America is a musical research project that focuses its study
on ancient musical instruments in the Americas.
Not only collecting instruments, we collecting stories,
meeting people, musicians, builders ...
they have the same concern that we want to know what happened before,
what were the instruments, which sounds inspired man.
All these instruments described in this table, and everything that is not seen,
but here ... it's part of our research, which seeks to spread the musical instruments
and sounds to convey ancient cultures that have left within the Americas.
The builders of pre-Hispanic instruments have been a key factor for this project,
we have provided the instruments and in turn have taught us to build them.
The Andes, has been a geographic feature of unification of cultures study for this project,
marking a travel route for the study of musical instruments.
During the investigation began to realize that certain sound artifacts were repeated
in different parts of the continent.
The earth is the giver of the raw material for the construction of musical instruments.
From the materials like feathers, sea shells, pottery, bone.
Different elements that provided the man, not just a musical connection, but a spiritual contact.
Musical instruments have a close relationship with American ritualism.
Different instruments allow various actions performed ritualistic.
Among the most representative ceramic instruments in the Americas,
are the ceramic Antaras (pan flute) of Nazca culture, discovered in Peru.
Are of outstanding importance for their finding allowed to contact the pre-Hispanic musical scales.
Just as we discovered the ceramic antara,
these vessels were also called whistling vessels of water.
It is a special instrument because it works with the movement of water.
When you pour a certain amount of water inside the vessels,
the instrument sounds alone.
Another natural element used are the feathers of birds,
in this case are the feathers of the Condor.
It is a symbolic element in relation to one of the most representative
birds of Andean cosmology.
The surprising thing we found in the American man is the great imagination
to create based on organic elements different musical instruments.
Of the Condor feathers antara born condor feather.
Is amazed to see how the constituent parts of a bird can build a beautiful musical instruments.
The sounds convey ideas, concepts, evoke feelings and emotions.
That is what we can do through ancient musical instruments in America is the reconnection
with a knowledge that is not explicitly verbal.
It is a musical knowledge that is transmitted through,
no musical instruments, but of energy objects that have left our ancestors
in these instruments, so that after hundreds of years,
new American settlers, in this case ourselves,
we can reconnect a again with the sound energy that existed and still exists in our continent.
The project interact directly with people in their place of source.
We traveled to the home builders, going to concerts,
explore different places like the jungle, mountains, etc...
To investigate where these instruments are play today,
and as these devices are built today sound.
I think the interaction with other people, other cultures, with other music ...
It is the most beautiful man expression. To share and transmit from a language
that is universal as music, to convey ideas, feelings...
And realize that this is been an American man who plays the antara of pottery,
or a Hindu man who plays the sitar, a Turkish man who plays the ney,
or any other instruments.
We can communicate, not only as human beings,
but we can also represent a continent that has a history.
A story is told through the instruments and can be shared with others around the world
only through the sounds.
