Welcome to Episode 9 of Koffee With Karolyn! Todays topic is Laughter and how important
it is in our lives!
There's that great Joni Mitchell lyric from her song "People's Parties" that says "Laughing
and crying is the same release" and that's so true. One of my favorite stories is, years
ago I was working as a receptionist and I had a girlfriend who I worked with who feared
that her husband might have cancer. Her husband was much older than her and began having health
problems and had been to the doctor for a round of tests. One day her husband called
on our main number and I transferred the call to her and I remember hearing the loudest
squeals coming from her office. It was the loudest, most uproarious laughter I had ever
heard in my life. I ran down the hall and cracked the door to her office and peaked
my head in to see what was going on. She was crying and laughing at the same time. Her
husband's tests had come back negative and the sound of her laughter coming from down
the hall is something I'll never forget.
Having a sense of humor and being able to laugh at yourself and at life is so important.
I know when I'm dating, if the guy doesn't have a sense of humor, it's a major deal breaker
for me. I have a close male friend who recently went on a date with a woman and they went
to the movies to see a comedy which my friend thought was hilarious. But his date didn't
laugh through the whole movie and he thought, "ok, next!" He knew it would never work with
her if she didn't have a sense of humor!
I know whenever I'm having a bad day and I come home and hear the sound of my daughters
laughter or she says or asks something hilarious, it really puts life in perspective and I suddenly
forget whatever I was stressed about!
What has made you laugh so hard you cried recently? I'd love to hear your stories at
