When I remember how it was, before anything even started
I get a really good feeling about it.
And what's interesting, I'm not even near of where I want to be, and so many things have already happened.
I can't even imagine how it must feel like when a man is old and looks back and he has
already achieved something. And that is what I think is important. Not
just when it comes to making tattoos. But in life itself.
To have the opportunity to be doing what you love, that you never dared to imagine you'd
be doing. You made a tattoo, merely because it was so
tempting, so inviting, you never thought you'd be doing that.
And to think that someday I will be telling the story of how it all happened to my kid,
or to someone I don't know today, and how it was before it all started... Well I think
that's what it's all about.
I am a man who doesn't have it all figured out just yet. I know a lot of people who already
know exactly what they want -- »I'll be a lawyer«, and they are doing everything they
can to become a lawyer. I never had that. And I remember when me and my friends were
just kids, we were talking about what we wanted to do, somebody asked me »What do you want
to do in your life?« I simply said »I want to make tattoos. If there's a chance to do
that, I want to do just that.«
Then you realize that it's something to pay attention to.
There's a lot that's been made about all of it. But you don't even realize it was work,
because it's something you love to do. If you do something just to do it, just to
be done with, that's one story. It is completely different to be doing something
that fulfills you. And that is what tattooing is to me.
It may sound weird right now, but it's how I feel. A lot was actually made before I made
a first tattoo, before I got the first tattoo gun, before it all even started. And that
is what is exciting. Apparently you have to love what you do in
life. When that happens, things evolve rapidly. I still remember well, how I wished to one
day be tattooing at tattoo conventions. I remember the first tattoos I made. But conventions
are different, there's something more to them. They're socializing, other tattoo artists
recognize you. I remember visiting conventions in Slovenia and abroad and wishing to one
day be working there as an artist. I thought I wouldn't be there before many years have
passed if ever at all. Today, I have a prize from a convention. And it may not seem much,
but to me... it means the world to me. Just because it all went so fast.
I remember, when I was making my first tattoo, how I had this strong wish to be one day tattooing
in a tattoo studio one day. Today, I am here in my own studio. And I was tattooing in another
before, and there's just so many things and it's just going so fast.
I want for people to come to me because they want a tattoo made by me. So I want to have
a personal style that I'd be known for. Something of my own, something not everyone could do.
Okay, this comes with experience and repetition, you can't really force it. And I'm not saying
I'm there yet but I do think that I'm working in the right direction towards that goal.
There are two things you have to know when it comes to tattooing.
First, you have to know that it's a lot of work. You have to know it's a lot to learn
and a lot to respect here. Second, you have to realize that all of this
isn't possible without having the right people by your side, your friends, people who already
know a thing or two about tattooing, who are willing to assist you in any way... it just
isn't.
