Hello, welcome to E-com's video in Spanish.
This is the month of October and what is celebrated in the month of October?
Well, of course, el día de la Hispanidad (Columbus Day), right?
Why is it el día de la Hispanidad? What is celebrated?
We'll talk a little about this theme and also how it is celebrated in Spain. There is a very special event.
And then we'll also talk about the Spanish language as our cultural topic.
What countries is it spoken in? And what differences are there between the Spanish in Spain and the Spanish in, for example, South America?
Which is a topic that always makes us wonder, yes, we'll see all of this.
Okay, let's talk about the monthly topic for October.
The monthly topic for October is el día de la Hispanidad. What is celebrated on el día de la Hispanida?
Well, the discovery of America is celebrated the 12th of October.
Columbus sailed in 1492 and discovered America.
He set out in search of India, which was an important place for trade, but he found the New World, he found America.
So, el día de la Hispanidad is celebrated here.
It is a day that all the Spanish speakers in the world celebrate. It is very important.
In Spain, there is a small event that is a little special.
We'll see who are these people? Who knows?
Well yes, it is King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía.
In Spain, a military parade takes place, because the King is the highest military in Spain.
So, all of the soldiers do a parade dressed in their formal uniforms and salute the King.
Well, it is a fairly important day, celebrated in the plaza Colón(Columbus Plaza), in honor of the discovery of America by Columbus.
And well, the truth is that it is broadcast on television and everyone watches it. It is very important.
Well, now we'll talk about the cultural topic.
The cultural topic will be the Spanish language this month, since we just spoke about la Hispanidad, we need to talk about the Spanish language.
The Spanish language is very important in the world and is spoken in many places, right? You know, right?
Where is Spanish spoken? Well, let's look at the map.
Spanish is spoken in many places, of course in Spain,
as well as in some places in Europe, in America: South America and Central America,
and in Mexico of course, North America, and in some parts of the United States as well.
It is also spoken in Africa, in Morocco, some areas of Morocco, in Guinea
and of course in Asia too, we have Hispanic representation,
here we have a small percentage in the Philippines of people who speak Spanish.
Spanish is a language that with the discovery of America, as with la Hispanidad, spread greatly throughout the world.
There are many differences, to be honest, between the Spanish of South America, the Spanish of Africa
the Spanish that can be spoken in the Philippines, not only in pronunciation, but also in words.
So, what is called the Real Academia de la Lengua was created.
What is the Real Academia de la Lengua? Who knows?
Well, actually it is very easy, it is the order that regulates all the official words used in Spanish.
There have a web page, so you can look up RAE, www.rae.es.
Here you can search and know the meaning of a word, an opposite word, a synonym, an antonym and it is very useful.
Well, also talking about Spanish, there are many differences,
for example what is said to be the big difference between the Spanish of Spain and that of South America,
it not only pronunciation, yes, but we also have some words.
For example: móvil is celular (mobile/cellular phone) in South America, or tarta is torta (cake)
or for example, coca-cola is colita, colita. There are many words, many words and it is very fun.
Have you had the opportunity to speak with a Latin American, with a person from South America?
You can clearly see the difference.
Then also, the big difference between the Spanish of South America and the Spanish of Spain,
is clearly that in Spain, we speak very directly.
For example: "¿cómo estás? ¿qué te pasa?" all with "tú".
However, in South America they use more formal expressions, usted, right, "¿Qué le pasa? ¿cómo está?".
This type of language is the same grammatically but they use the form with usted a lot.
And this, well, if you go travelling in South America, you also have to bear this in mind, right?
So, you need to study a lot, you know that.
Okay and we will see out this month of October with a lot of energy, because we need to study a lot.
We saw that the Spanish language is spoken in very many countries, right?
So, we can make Spanish-speaking friends in very many countries.
Courage! Let's study a lot. Best of luck. Good-bye!
