The trouble we had was that there was about 3 feet of water
around the entire building. So, most of the people
were able to wade through that, and out. There were a few people that
we had some concerns about so we made arrangements for them.
But at no point did I feel like we were in any real danger, per se.
The thing that impressed me the most was how he just
got in there and started directing traffic.
That he made sure that all the equipment...
he just had a sense of purpose and um, just knew exactly what to do
instinctively. And I just found that to be very comforting.
He got all the equipment up off the floors.
He got all the, um as much as he could, the filework. And then he started
directing people upstairs to make sure that everybody was safe
and in one central area. He just did an incredible job.
Seemed like we had a nice network of communications throughout
the University. And all the responders that were important to bring in
to the situation and everything really went smoothly and it's a tribute to the
people that were in the Houchins building at the time and
how they remained calm and just at ease with the situation.
