- What's up, everyone?
I am Ahmed Khalifa.
Today, I'm going to be showing you
how to use wildcards on Google Search,
which is the asterisk.
The little star that you put on Google Search.
The technique that not a lot of people know about,
or not a lot of people really take advantage of
to help them find literally endless
amount of content ideas right on Google.
They tend to focus on long tail keywords,
so these are the keywords which are two or more words long.
Naturally they would also be low in search volume,
but that shouldn't stop you from using a difficult
that has low search volume because people
are searching for it because it will appear on Google.
Let's get into the computer and let me show you
how you can use wildcards on Google Search.
Let's go straight onto Google and search there.
As you know, when you search on Google,
you will have the auto suggests pop down
below the search bar to give you a related keyword,
a related topic, related phrases that you can also use.
Let's just say you are a food blogger
and you want to go basic and you want to write content
about how to cook rice.
Start basic.
You type in there how to cook rice and as you can see,
not only you have the name you searched for,
but you also have all these ideas as well.
These are something that you can
take advantage of right now.
Take advantage of these auto suggests that Google pops up.
Let's just say after you put how to cook rice,
press the return key, you get the results.
If you go back to the search bar up here,
you can use a wildcard to get further ideas.
Just put wildcard here, and as you can see,
it highlights anything before the word rice
in different topics.
Brown rice, fried rice, basmati rice, white,
it can go on and on and on.
Imagine you can go further and further into this.
Let's just say you want to focus
on how to cook basmati rice.
You got the result and you can look up the content.
Maybe you can make it better.
Maybe you can make it more up to date,
make it more engaging.
Video, maybe you can make it image based.
Whatever it is, you can always improve it.
Again, let's get back to the search bar.
You say how to cook basmati rice.
Let's put the wildcard maybe before rice again
and once again it brings up more related topic.
You can see brown rice is highlighted
but also it gives you further as well.
Let's just move the wildcard and put it before basmati.
As you can see there as well, some more ideas.
How to cook perfect basmati rice,
how to cook fluffy basmati rice.
People are looking for that
and it is up to you to take advantage of that
in your industry, in your own topic.
Let's just pick another one and let's just say
how to cook fluffy basmati rice and let's just see
what comes up when you put asterisks over here.
Not as much but you can see is still has
how to cook fluffy brown basmati rice.
Let's go back behind basmati.
Put in asterisk here, not much.
Maybe before fluffy.
How to cook perfect fluffy basmati rice.
You get the idea, you can go on further and further.
Let's just choose another topic.
Maybe you are a travel blogger and you want to write
about things to do in London, for example.
Let's just say things to do in London
and you got all these ideas there all ready.
Again, experiment further.
Once you press the return key,
go back in there, put the asterisks,
and then you got different things even more.
You got free things to do, unusual things to do,
top 10, romantic, cheap.
You can go on forever as you can imagine.
Again, let's get deeper.
Fun things to do in London.
You get the idea and then let's put asterisks
in the middle of different places.
Fun cheap things, fun active, fun unusual.
You got all these content ideas
that are just there for taking.
It's all free, available on Google.
Let's choose another topic.
Let's just say you want to do a comparison
of a PlayStation 4, for example.
If you put PlayStation 4 versus,
you get the usual idea over here.
Sometimes it's quite obvious that you're
gonna compare it with other game consoles,
but sometimes you might want to make it even more unique.
When you use the asterisks in this position,
after the versus, you get a few different ones.
For example, Xbox One exclusive
but without the asterisks it wasn't there.
Sometimes you can get really, really specific niche ideas
that you would never have thought of
or maybe not a lot of people have used
or could get good content about as well.
Again, take advantage of this feature of the wildcard.
Finally, if I could show you one more example.
If I want to buy, let's just say, leather boots.
If you type where can I buy leather boots,
you get the search result.
Again, go back in there and type in asterisks,
let's just say, over here.
There you go.
You got where can I buy patient, white,
real, wide calf, good, green.
Green leather boots?
I'm not gonna complain (laughing).
I'm not gonna judge.
You got these ideas, just by putting asterisks there,
that you would have never have even thought of before.
Maybe put asterisks after leather, see what comes up.
There you go.
Leather cowboy boots, obviously.
You got your more ideas here,
men's leather boots boots, men's leather,
men's leather dress boots with zippers.
That's a keyword idea there, cool content there.
You get the idea.
Make sure you take advantage of the wildcard.
It gives you endless amount of content ideas,
literally endless.
