Hello everyone my name is Richard D Graham, I'm a poet in Washington, DC well a poet and
producer as well as being a Marine Corps. veteran. This poem is entitled "What It's
Like?" What it's like?
Living with PTSD Open your mind
Hear my words and take a journey with me, Anxiety so crippling
That it's almost impossible to leave home Creating a mindset
That you only want to be completely alone, Some days are good
Some days are bad Some days you can function
Some days you feel like you'll go mad, Awakening from horrific nightmares
To screams and sweat Constantly reminding me
That it's not over yet, Sounds and smells
That trigger something inside Making you feel as though
You're drowning in high tide, And some days are good
Some days are bad Some days you can function
And some days you feel like you'll go mad, Not being able to sit
Without your back to the wall Because even though you're home
The enemy may come to call, Paranoid of large crowds
Because the faces all look the same And you struggle to keep it together
To simply remain sane, And some days are good
Some days are bad Some days you can function
And some days you feel like you'll go mad, The world becomes dark
You decide to self-medicate Finding peace in the bottom of a bottle
Away from everyone you isolate, Before you know it
You let all this poison your soul To the point you can't get up
Looking up from a very deep hole, And some days are good
Some days are bad Some days you can function
And some days you feel like you'll go mad, What is it like
Life with PTSD This is just a little taste
I hope you start to see, I've found salvation
In the ink that follows from my pen As it gets easier to tell my story
Allowing my hidden wounds and scars mend, And some days are good
Some days are bad Some days it gets a little easier to get through
And some days you realize there reason to be glad.
