Wherever you get your news, sometimes it seems like there's no end of bad headlines about the economy.
So a lot of us are paying more attention than ever to our household bills,
whether it's the council tax, the credit cards, the mortgage.
And then there's the gas and electricity bills, most of us look for that figure that gives you the sum you have to pay.
But what exactly goes into that?
Well, there's a lot more than just the gas and electricity you use.
We have to pay for the networks that bring the energy to our homes.
We all pay for government initiatives to support renewable energy and help tackle climate change
and there are special schemes designed to help the more vulnerable people, the elderly or the disabled,
who may be struggling to pay their bills.
But there's a lot that each of us can do to help manage our bills more effectively.
You can think about energy efficiency measures, getting insulation in your loft, for example.
And you can always shop around for a better deal.
So the next time your energy bill comes through the front door,
take a good hard look at it and have a think about whether you are on the very best deal for you.
