How ya doing, my name is Greg Hines and we're gonna be talking today about the Sony V-Mount
Converter. Sorry about the harsh shadow, it looks like crap but we'll get around to making
that look better. But in the meantime, let's talk about the nitty gritty.
Alright so what I did was I bought a light panel off of Amazon.com. Where I buy my stuff,
whether it's from B&H, Adorma, Amazon or site sources honestly depends on who has the best
price. I'll go and research anything for a long time, I will watch a lot of people online
and see what they are saying, what they're using and I'll make my OWN decision and that's
as simple as it gets. So, um...so, anyway, I'm gonna go ahead and
throw this on, my C-Stand. Like so...BAM...BBAM...BAM. Now it's really important that you guys grab
a C-Stand if you can afford one. You can probably get one...like this one I'm using is what
I think uh, yeah, it's a Matthew's. I got it for like $125 from B&H...but anyway, so
what we're looking at...V-Mount. I don't know a lot about V-Mounts so I'm not gonna sit
here and pretend that I do. But what I can tell you is that even on EBay, you can one
for maybe $250 but what you will really be looking at is a $300-$450 and up price range
for a V-Mount battery.
So, I'm online Googling and I found Cheesycam.com and he made a fantastic suggestion and that's
really what I want to talk about today and it's kinda of my review on it...and it does
work great. So, I got min for under $250 to go ahead and power up this lite panel.
So, the first thing is actually the converter. It comes from China and I'll be honest, a
lot of things that come from China...well...I guess we have our own stereotypes and opinions
on what comes from China in the realms of Quality. So, with that being said, this costs
around $50 and change. Again, just go to EBay and Google V-Mount converter and you'll find
this. I'll post a link to it in the box below. I'm gonna just go ahead and open this. I left
it in the box because I know a lot of people love to watch things come out of boxes. What
basically just fell, it's um...what this is I'll see if I can get a close-up on it but
what it is two fuses. So, in the off chance that you guys blow a fuse doing this stuff,
you have a backup. For all my lights that I use, not my LED's of course but for all
my halogens and stuff I always have fuses. If you guys get on a shoot whether you're
charging somebody or not it's embarrassing if you're charging someone and you got to
come up with something right now. So, anyway I'm rambling...
So, let's see. So, I have here...this is the actual V-Mount Converter, ok. As you can see
in the back, it's gonna slide right in. I only did this once...because I really wanted
to make this review...so I kinda wanted to look like a newbie if you would.
But before I do that, to power this converter, on cheesycam, they recommended buying two
Sony batteries. And that's what I did. They are these L-Series...they are the F970's but
again I'll put a link on the bottom so you guys can see what I'm talking about, where
I bought it and how much it costs. But I think these are around $180? Trust me when I say,
these are well worth it. These two alone, well they're advertising
for ten plus hours. You're running a LED panel like this I'm not gonna sit here and pretend
that you will get ten hours from it but three to five, probably.
What I am gonna do at the end of the month is I am making a spec commercial for Levi
jeans and I will be using this on set. So, I'm gonna do a whole behind the scenes and
review on how it actually was in the field. So I'll make sure I get that out there, look
for that video.
Either which way, you got two holes, two pins, it's really simple, just slide it and lock
it in...like so, ok. And there we go. At this point pretty darn simple, you're just looking
for your pins, your pin holes I should say. I'm gonna just have to step in front of you
guys. You're gonna just have to trust me that this goes in.
Make sure the power is off every time you mess with this stuff, you don't want to blow
anything. Surrender that gigantic pie. So if I go ahead...ok I know that's working.
So what I am gonna do. This is in. You can hit a button...you can see the...this is the
actual...what you just saw with the red light going on is the battery power. So, it will
let you know. I don't understand one thing. As far as the actual LED panel itself, I will
do a review on that another time. I am gonna face this towards you guys. Got some nice
barn doors. As you can see, I have not used this because again, I wanted to wait until
I did this review. So this is the first I am even looking at it.
Ok, so what we have here is a nice diffuser panel and I'm gonna just leave it in. Ok,
so I am gonna go ahead...I am gonna power it on. Look at that. And there we go.
So, next video, I will actually be able to use this as I won't be relying on my other
little light video. But more importantly, I just figured out a way, well, cheesycam.com
let me know, how to inexpensively power this up, via battery. So when I go out to the field,
because I live in the Mojave Desert and I am going to go do this film shoot and everything
out there in the desert, I'm not going to rent a generator. Why? Because I am not made
out of money and most of us aren't. So, we're always gonna be looking for a way to be mobile,
efficient...if I can just take this and move it around on a battery, way better than trying
to find an outlet. Even being in a house or apartment. I like running on batteries because
it portable, easy to move, easy to turn on and off. So anyway, that's enough rambling
on that. And again, I'll put all of the links down
at the bottom. Thank you for watching and I'll talk to you guys soon.
