[Funky Music] Prof. Ruiz: I am professor
Ruiz (pro. ‘Reese’) or Ruiz (pro. ‘Ru-iz’), my name gets pronounced many different ways.
I’ve been at UNC Asheville since 1978.
I’m a theoretical physicist by profession.
Traditionally you have introductory physics for engineers,
physics majors, chemistry majors, atmospheric science majors,
it’s very technical, calculus based introductory class.
I have a course where I take light and sound and bring them to
the general student. Now one course is the physics the sound and music,
the other courses is light and visual phenomena which deals with light,
color, and even illusions. So it’s a real fun course
and we show the laws of physics in a setting
thats applications across
other disciplines. So if I'm teaching a course in light,
if I’m doing some the psychology of perception, that's fantastic,
if I can do the eye—some biology—I can relate to art.
This is what UNC Asheville’s all about.
