Setting up your remote access to e-Resources/database via Proxy server
Internet Explorer.
Provided you are an active member of our university
and you would like to remotely access e-resources served by the University Library of Pécs
you will be able to do so - by following the steps in the attached video -
connect to the IP ranges of PTE
This video displays windows operating system and
Mozilla Firefox browser settings.
To successfully access our e-Resorces/database remotely
you have to be a member (either an employee or a student) of the University of Pécs,
and have to have a valid day-pass for one of our library unit.
In our video the clicks and other executable tasks are marked with a red disk.
Open the browser and click on "Tools" in the Menu
Select "Internet Settings" from the drop-down Menu options
At this point a window pops open with the browser settings.
Please click on the "Connections" tab.
At this point the 'Connections' setting interface is activated in the open window.
Now you should search for the "Local Area Network" tab and click on it
At this point your internet connection settings become active.
On this page please search for the "usse automatic configuration script" function.
and activate it by placing checkmark in the tick box
After successful activation
please type in the link as it is displayed in our video:
http://dbproxy.lib.pte.hu/db.pac
Please make sure that the url is typed correctly,
so please check after typing that there is no typing error.
When finished, please press the OK button.
At this point the window for the proxy setting closes
and the network window's interface becomes active again.
Please close this too by clicking on the OK button.
Then, when you navigate to another free accessible website from your browser
the PTE university Library's proxy is not going to be switched on.
As soon as you would like to visit one of our library sites
the proxy will remember and will requires identification in a popup.
For this identification you need your valid library card (i.e. card number)
that you obtained when you registered with any of the PTE libraries
as well as the linked password.
Please type in the library card number as user name.
Your password will be DOB you gave at registration,
your date of birth written as a four-digit number: MMDD
However if you have already changed your password previously on the OPAC interface
after registration
then for successful authentication you have to give this new/changed password.
After typing in the library card number and the password
please press the OK button to complete the authentication process.
If there is a typing error or the authentication is failing
the system pops up the authentication window again.
After successful authentication the browser remembers it
and you no longer need any further authentication
unless your browser is closed or you restart the computer.
If you are the sole user of your computer and internet,
you can opt to save the password as well.
Once you save the password, next time you switch on your computer
you do not need to go through the authentication process because of your settings,
as the browser does it all in the background.
For security reasons please do not save the password on a computer
used by others!
These settings will be valid until you change your password
or your library card number changes.
When you change your browser or update the version of your browser
then you need to repeat the authentication process.
When visiting our library website and you come across the following message in Hungarian:
"Hiba – Chace hozzáférés megtagadva" (In English:"Access Denied" or "error message"
or the browser gives a similar error message,
please check whether the proxy settings are correct.
If you think that all the settings are correct,
but the proxy server does not authorize to display the content
then the Proxy Server is probably down or unavailable
In this case please inform immediately
the webmasters about the error. Their availability is given at the end of the video.
After you have reported the problem, our staff can start resolving the issue.
The correct proxy settings and the successful identification can be tested
by clicking in the E-library menu bar on then the E-resources tag.
On this page you can find the list of our databases and their web accessibility.
To demonstrate, in our video we searched in EBSCOhost database.
Once connected successfully the database lists all search results,
in addition, in the top right hand corner of the monitor the name of the authorised institute appears,
confirming that the user has is within the PTE's IP ranges.
Researching can commence,
and the user's entitlements and accesses should work,
in the same way as if using internet within the IP ranges of the university.
In case the database requires subscription rather than listing results when searching,
then either the proxy setting was unsuccessful,
or for some other reasons connecting to the Proxy Server was unsuccessful,
or perhaps that particular database is not subscribed,
or the University of Pécs has only limited access through its subscription.
Then it's worth trying to search in another database.
If everything is working OK then probably the university has no access to this particular database,
or the access has already expired.
In this case our database manager can giv e you more information on it.
Please do not hesitate to contact her (contact details are at the end of this video).
We hope that our video presentation will assist you
successfully remotely accessing our database.
Thank you for your attention.
