I love running this programme. The experience we've had so far has been that students have
had an opportunity from all over the world to learn from the knowledge and the experience
that we are passionate about, the things that we really find interesting in our own research
and study. So I think that's what it is really, it's being able to share that with people
all over the world, people who would not have the opportunity to come to Birmingham and
sit in the class and yet have exactly the same opportunity as class students would have.
We have two core modules and one of those modules is about the history of evangelicalism
and pentecostalism. The other one is about the research methods used in the study of
these subjects.
Then we have four optional modules which a student can choose out of seven on the programme
itself and even from other Schools.
You can do shorter programmes. We have a diploma which is just six modules without a dissertation
and we have the certificate which is just three modules and students can do those and
they can also if they do well enough, they can go on to do the MA if they want to.
We have online lectures. We have a discussion forum which is a very important part of what
we do. All our materials are online including the readings that students have to do every
week and then they have to answer questions and interact with one another as well as with
the staff during that time. They have access to our extensive online library resources
where they can look up a lot of books and journals on the subject.
The staff, particularly the tutor responsible for the particular module, is always there
online on a weekly basis and responds to students' needs if and when they come up.
We have a number of people who are in christian ministry or want to go on to a theological
teaching degree or even want to go onto doctoral studies. But we welcome people who are just
interested because they want to know more about the subject.
