A family turns a terrible tragedy
into the inspiration of a wonderful idea In Louder then Words.
When the Fareri family loses a daughter they decide to build a children's
hospital to honor her memory.
Now this is a straight forward family drama that I liked
despite a few problems. Jonathan and Stephanie have four children and Maria is
the youngest
she's the one that really holds the family together. Unfortunately she becomes
ill may have to take her to the hospital. There the parents see the sparse spartan
conditions
where people are being treated and Maria takes a turn for the worse.
One night Jonathan goes through her journal and gets inspired.
They could build a hospital for the other families their community.
This is a very slow paced emotional family drama so
if that sounds boring to you you'll want to skip this one. Now to me
I got into it because it how they were really trying to show a family
in pain. How they were all splintering apart and becoming very selfish.
Now at times when we see too much of that on screen it can push us away.
Here I really think they were trying to show how families complete different
individuals
were coming back together not only for a dream but to honored their sister and their
daughter.
David Duchovny and Morgan Griffin work well together as struggling parents
at the worst possible moment in their lives. The film really does lean on their
dramatic talents.
Unfortunately there wasn't that extra layer of humor
I think this story needed. Some of the best tearjerkers I have
ever watch have had a sense of humor. So my spirits were being lifted
up so the could bring back down again. This movie doesn't strike that balance
but I still liked it. Louder than Words is based on the true story of
the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital which treats over 20,000 patients a year.
This is one to watch when you want straightforward drama that has a hopeful
message.
Remember to stay through the credits though. You're gonna see actual pictures of
the family, the hospital, and a little girl who inspired something wonderful.
