My name is Anna Ducárová.
I am Martin Glova and our aquarium is located
in St. Thomas Aquinas Grammar School in Košice.
There are nitrifying bacteria which are used as biological filter.
As you can see, level of nitrite decreases,
but level of nitrate increases.
This is ion exchange column which we use for reduction of nitrate content.
We can predict level of nitrate using this program.
There you can see line graph showing experimental data
and there is graph showing calculated data.
Measurements were done at Slovak Academy of Sciences in Košice at DIONEX ICS-5000.
We have to prepare water properly to have exact results.
Then computer evaluates chemical content of water, cations, anions or other parameters.
We compare our results with results of chemical content of small garden lake and find out that there are no nitrates at all.
The main point to reduce toxic substances from our aquarium, was pH reduction to less than 7.
After addition of sulfuric acid to input aquarium water for more than 1 month we reached required level of pH.
Water flows through few filters in tank and also through katex-anex column.
Then demi water is mixed with the water from tank.
Water in aquarium circulation is added from tanks after defecation.
Here we can see defecation.
Here are discus when they were about 3 months old
and about 3 cm long.
Here we can see them eating feed.
Here is their age about 5 months.
These days they are about 9 months old
and their length is about 8 cm.
And here we can see behaviour of one dominant individual.
And again as they are eating.
One breeding pair at the end.
