The National Council 1973 - 2013
On 26th August 1975
and two years on the first parliament experience in Bahrain
Bahrain's ruler, Issa bin Salman, dissolved the elected National Assembly
announcing the beginning of a new juncture taking the country into a dark tunnel
The Bahrainis had sacrificed their blood in their fight against the occupier
and struggled for their rights, and there, was the National Assembly and the 1973 constitution.
However, this did not last for long, the tribal doctrine could not have allowed even a quasi-democracy
The regime wanted to impose a state of emergency but was confronted by the legitimate representatives of the people
The members of the National Assembly
that was dissolved, had refused to approve the State-Security Law
For 4 decades, Bahrain has been witnessing pounding political crisis
In the 90s, there were more than 40 martyrs and thousands of prisoners and refugees
On 6th March 1999
Bahrain's former ruler, Issa bin Salman, passed away
and so his son, Hamad bin Issa, came to power
The youth Emir came to power pressurized by the popular movement in the 90s uprising
so he announced what he called the 'Reforming project'!
The new ruler freed the political prisoners and allowed those in exile to return.
He announced the issuance of the National Action Charter on 23rd November 2001 and which stated that the people are to be the source of all powers
Al-Ghuraify: the king should personally affirm
Firstly: the constitution is superior to the charter and all constitutional principles must not be affected
Secondly: the elected assembly must enjoy full legislative powers
Hamad: I will sign this statement and hand in it you with all respect I put my voice with you
The lie did not stand for long. On 14th February 2002
Hamad bin Issa announces himself King of Bahrain
and topples the National Action Charter and breaks the covenant between him and his people
The unilateral 2002 constitution makes the king head of all powers
and an untouchable figure, and puts the people in the margin. His highness and majesty
The King appoints half of the legislative authority and messes in the people's election of the other half
The overthrow of the Charter takes Bahrain back to the dark tunnel and the State-Security Law, but in new shape
Since 11 years, Bahrain has been under political conflict and rebellion movement.
Then came the 14 February revolution and the security crackdown followed by the state of emergency.
So far, more than 100 martyrs and thousands either injured, arrested or in exile.
Today, in August 2013
new pages are recorded in Bahrain's history.
30 years ago, the representatives of the people refused to approve the State-Security project
Today, the governmental assembly in 2013 impersonates the name of the National Assembly
it incites against and offends individual citizens and spreads poison of sectarianism in the society
In 1975, the National Assembly refused the announcing of emergency law.
Today, we see clowns in the position of the people's representatives demanding to impose emergency law.
Nothing motives the people to continue their revolution more than what they see of disregard to their homeland.
We will continue our revolution until we achieve our demands
,because we want a better life and a National Assembly.. that is truly national.
