IMPMOOC - ASSIGNMENT 3
I'm going to demonstrate how to configure and how I use a Submix to make mixing easier in Reaper
This is a multitrack project that I downloaded from http://www.cambridge-mt .com/ms-mtk.htm (You can fin the link below)
'Remember December - C U next time'
Background music: 'Ersa' by 'Viva Belgrado' (link below)
As you can see I added 2 empty tracks with some effects for later
Let's start!
First, create a track (Ctrl + T)
I'll name it 'Drums'
Press the I/O button
In receives, we want that the track 'Drums' receives the sound from all the tracks that are related to drums (kick, snare...)
To make it faster you can just click on the I/O button and drag it to the track that you want to send it
This is REALLY important
You have to make sure that 'Master/parent send' is not activated, otherwise you will hear every track twice (from the original track and from the 'Drums' track)
Doing this we 'mute' the individual tracks and we only hear sound from the track 'Drums'
We can do it faster with the combination: ALT + click on I/O button
Let's hear how it works
Previously, I set the relative levels of Kick, snare, etc. Now we can see that we control all tracks we sent to the track 'Drums' with only one fader
This is going to make the mixing process faster when we have to level up or down the drums' volume with respect the other instruments
This is how you configure a submix and therefore the end of the assignment, but....
... I think it could be helpful to show you how you can use it for mixing. Keep watching if you are up to =)
Now I'm creating another submix for guitars and vocals (the bass is in one track so we don't need a submix)
I configured the I/O as shown before for 'Drums'
These are all guitar tracks
These are all vocal tracks
Now I'm going to make a fast mix to show you that it's easier now we created submixes
Using the effects tracks for vocals. The procedure is the same as before (send the track to the effect) but now with the volume fader adjust the effect level
That's all folks
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
