Covered in dust and traumatised from hours trapped inside a collapsed building. This
boy is just one of the survivors pulled from the rubble of a five-storey apartment block
in Mumbai. While he and more than 110 others slept, the building gave way just after midnight.
Resucers are managing to pull others from the remains but at least six people have died.
The apartment block was believed to be about 35 years old but wasn't on an official list
of dilapidated buildings.
However this latest accident underscores the failing building standards in Asia's third
largest economy.
A shortage of cheap homes has led to more illegal construction by developers who use
cheaper materials and shoddy methods, then offer up cheaper rent. Property prices have
risen in the last five years in Mumbai exasperating this problem.
