Hi I’m Carlie from Close To My Heart!
Have you ever looked at a cute Cricut shape and thought,
I’d really like to make that into a banner for my son’s birthday party
or that would make a cute decoration for my little girl’s room,
but you really wanted some dimension so that flat shape so it would stand out?
Well you’re going to love this crafting segment
because I’m going to show you how to make those flat Cricut shapes three dimensional.
You can see on these fun ornaments that I’ve created,
I used four flat Cricut shapes
and then I just scored them down the center
and glued them together using Liquid Glass,
to create this fun dimensional ornament.
As you can see there are a-lot of different shapes you can choose from to give your tree variety.
Let me show you another way to use flat shapes
and make them three dimensional.
You can see here on this fun little heart garland
that I have just used some flat hearts
found on the Art Philosophy Cartridge,
and some stamping, scored along the center
just like the ornament to create a fun 3D heart.
Let me show you how I did it.
What you’ll want to do is start with one flat heart
and you don’t want to score that one because as you can tell
on my little garland here, the flat one is actually going to be the base.
So, I’m going to take my flat heart
and I will just put my twine down the center
and then just score your heart.
I’m just going to use my paper trimmer.
I will place a flat heart on the gutter right here
where your blade would normally go,
take my bone folder and just run that down the center to give it a nice score line
so that I can fold it, and I’m going to do that twice.
Then all I would need to do
is add a little adhesive
to one side of my heart
and I can glue the other one to it,
but you’ll want to leave one side
on each of those without adhesive
because they are going to glue to your flat heart.
So, I’ll just add a little adhesive to the flat one
and then while you got everything here
you’ll just want to realign.
So I just want to make sure that my twine is sitting in the center,
and you can add a little bit of adhesive under the twine if you want,
but you’re going to have adhesive on this piece as well
so it'll just kind of sandwich it in there.
So that, if you add a little piece of adhesive there,
a little bit of Tombow then you’ll have your twine in place
and I’ve added actually enough
of adhesive on this flat one
so I don’t have to worry about trying to get it onto this dimensional piece
because that’s a little bit tricky.
And then you just need to line it up,
you can flatten that out,
line it up with your heart
and then press it down,
and you can even rearrange as you go if you need to
with your twine and your pieces
until you’ve got it where you want it to be.
And then you just continue to add them with the stamped pieces or the plain pieces.
I have nine different hearts here on my little finished banner
but you can do as many as you would like
to give it the look that you want.
Now let me show you another piece of art that uses this same technique.
Over here on this Mini Album page
I have this fun little film strip book,
and I’m actually going to show you how you can make that doing the same thing.
Let me just open it up here
so you can see what it looks like.
It’s just an additional little piece that has some more journaling,
some more photos, just to give a little bit more to this small page.
You can fit all of your memories right here.
And would you believe that this little book came from a flat film strip
found on the Artbooking Cartridge?
Now before we score this because we’re using that same technique,
I’m actually going to add
two little strips of Colonial White Cardstock,
just to back
the cute little squares
so it gives it another fun element.
And you could add any color you would like to coordinate with your photos
or your project,
and that just helps give those little Colonial White squares a pop.
So what I’m going to do now
is use my paper trimmer like I did before
and my bone folder.
And I’m just going to go straight down the center
of each of these little lines.
And where you have the double layer of cardstock,
where this Colonial White is you’ll just want to push a little bit harder
to make sure that that score line is nice and deep
so that you can get a crisp fold.
So I’ll just do that all across all three gutters here,
make sure I’ve got a good line.
And then you can just fold to create the little pages of your book.
to create the little pages of your book.
Now for timed purposes
I actually have one finished over here
that I want to talk to you about.
You can see that
when you fold the book closed
this center fold actually
does not meet up with these two edges
and that is perfect because you're
actually going to staple the little book closed
once you have both of your pieces together.
So you’ll staple it closed after you’ve embellished it,
after you’ve added your photos, and everything
and that will give you
this little edge right here on your finished book.
So you’ll staple two of them together 121 00:05:41 --> 00:05:444 and then inside here
I’ve just added some Washi Tape over the top to kind of finish it off
and make sure those two stick together well,
and if you wanted to you could add a little bit of Washi Tape out here
to the end to give it kind of a finished off look.
It’s so easy to turn a one dimensional shape into a stunning 3D piece of art work.
