Hello ladies and gentlemen, my name is Mike Cuomo and I'm studying my Masters of Education
Technology here at Boise State. I live in New Jersey, Hamilton to be exact which is
between our capital Trenton and Princeton, so I'm all the way on the other side of the
country. I just graduated from Rosemont College in May with a degree in history and I decided
to pursue my Masters in Education Technology for several reasons. First, I originally was
an education major and was planning on becoming a high school history teacher, but during
my education classes I realized that I preferred designing courses and coming up with creative
ways of incorporating technology into the lessons to actually standing in front of a
class and teaching students. That led me to discover the field of Instructional Design
and Education Technology and therefore gave me the answer the "what do you want to do
when you grow up" question. More importantly, though, is that I love learning, I love design,
and I love technology, so naturally this Graduate Program is a really great fit, and I'm really
excited for it.
As for my hobbies, well my two favorite things to do is read and watch movies - I love film,
particularly period-piece dramas and foreign films. That explains my degree in history
and also my love of travel. I've been to Italy twice and have just about every other country
on my list of Places to Visit before I die. As for books, mysteries and thrillers are my favorite when I want
some entertainment reading, and when I want something thought provoking I'll read anything
that sounds interesting. I'm currently reading The Monuments Men (by Robert M. Edsel) and
The Disappearing Spoon (by Sam Kean). I also like to go kayaking and walking so I do get
out of the house. And I'm deathly afraid of spiders.
That is a quick little snapshot about me. I'm really looking forward to grad school
and building some strong friendships with all of you. Add me to your circles, follow
me on Twitter (mcuomo2013), and let me know if you need any help or anything. Best of
luck and I look forward to working with you all.
