Today's question is... Where does the saying "to step on somebody's
toes" (in Italian: 'fare le scarpe')come from?
The saying "to step on somebody's toes" finds its origin in different contexts
In the military sphere It was used to take off shoes from dead soldiers because shoes
were precious Other cases attest the birth of this way of
saying in the Middle Age, when many pilgrims walked barefoot and shoes were very important
Many pilgrims used to sleep with their shoes under their head to avoid to find old and
ruined shoes when they woke-up Another theory is linked with the brigandage's
period when villains took off their victims' shoes to avoid being chased
