During the 6th Annual Kansas Reads to Preschoolers Week, which focused on food, nutrition, and
where food comes from, Pittsburg State University’s Preschool class got a special visit and book
time reading by President Steve Scott. For Dr. Scott, being able to be a part of this
is personally important. Dr. Steve Scott-“It’s important to me
personally because I believe in it. I believe in the center and what they do for our kids
and kids in this community. An then reading, what can you say about reading but it’s
an upmost importance to success in school. Particularly school years and later on in
life as well. So I’m very very glad to be here and be supportive of it.”
Each child received a copy of the book “Up, Down, and Around” by Katherine Ayers. For
Amber Tankersley the book fits right in with what they kids have been learning about.
Amber Tankersley-“They definitely paid attention because they were able to answer some questions
and it was on a topic that most of them are familiar with. We’ve either eaten some of
the things they talked about in the book or we’ve grown them or had them brought in.
So I think they were really excited and they definitely listened and I think they really
enjoyed the book.” For PSU student teacher Kelsey Burnett, this
has been a great way for her to learn new ideas and strategies for the classroom.
Kelsey Burnett-“It’s important because it gives me the opportunity to learn different
activities that I could use in my own preschool if I choose to teach. It’s amazing, I gain
a lot of knowledge and we interact with one another very well and I’m learning something
every day so it’s amazing.”
