Hey, whats up guys?
I recently was reading a book named Habit Harvester and the information I got from there
was really valuable.
I wanted to summarize the book and present it to you guys, in fact, I even wrote a script
for the same but somewhere I felt that the information given was huge to be covered in
a single video and since habits are what makes or breaks us, I wanted to cover the topic
in detail.
So I decided to make 8 videos covering every minute details and each video after this one
will come on Friday.
You can call this a Habit Harvester series where I will be talking about the different
chapters of the Habit Harvester book.
Apart from that, you can expect regular videos on other days of the week.
With that said, lets jump into the first video of Habit Harvester series which talks
about what exactly is a Habit and why do we need habits in our lives?
You might have noticed that it needs quite an effort and motivation if someone asks you
to get up early or hit the gym.
But you dont need any sort of motivation to brush your teeth or while going out with
friends every Friday.
Thats simply because you have cultivated a habit to do these activities.
So even if its chilling cold, you are gonna brush your teeth every day and you will also
manage to go out with friends every Friday.
So, wouldnt it be amazing if you can train yourself the same way to read books, to work-out
every day and to do some productive tasks which can make your life better.
You certainly cannot purely rely on motivation because it tends to fade away.
You might hit the gym regularly for a week but continuing it for months or maybe years
is what you were aiming at and the motivation seems to go away just after a few days.
But, what if you develop a habit before you lose your motivation.
This way you put a certain task in your time table and you get habituated to follow your
routine which leads to you following those certain activities even if you are not motivated.
These habits when followed over a certain period of time can be the greatest factor
in your success.
Now on the other side of the coin, you can have bad habits, the habits which is going
to break you and will lead you to become unsuccessful, depressed and diseased.
Like if you smoke a cigarette, you have higher chances of developing a lung cancer, your
family members wont like to hang out with you as often and the smoking habit keeps getting
stronger.
It can increase from smoking once a day to 5 times a day to ultimately becoming a chain
smoker.
So, this video series is going to help you find your bad habits and reverse engineer
them into some really good and productive habits.
Its rightly said that what differentiates successful people from the rest of the people
is not what they do when they feel like it but when they dont feel like it.
There are many people who try to learn guitar from YouTube and they do start to practice
it but just in a month or so, their motivation runs out and they completely stop playing
it.
They get satisfied with the 6 chords they learnt and that one song they always wanted
to play.
On the other hand, a really successful guitarist practices playing every single day, irrespective
of whether they like it or not and in just a few years, they become an expert in the
instrument.
This is because they form a habit of practising it and habits harden like concrete over time
and they compound.
They get locked in the neural pathways of your brain and once that happens, it starts
converting difficult things into easier things.
For example when you start working out, you find it really difficult but an athlete doesnt
find any difficulty in working out and following the diet.
The same happens with reading.
When you start reading for the first time, you read slowly and you find it really boring,
but over the time, you start to cultivate the habit of reading every day and you start
to read really fast.
This way you read a ton of books, accumulating so much of knowledge which improves you as
a human.
So this is why we really need some good habits in our lives.
Another thing about habits is that they are really subconscious which means that we dont
think about it consciously.
Like when you are driving on the road to office, the same road you have been driving on from
last 4 to 5 years, you dont really think about the turns you got to take or any speed
breakers, you just do it all, automatically.
So if somehow you can fit other productive habits like reading and working out in your
brains neural pathway, you will be able to follow it automatically.
Similarly, you can replace bad habits with good ones and make it concrete which will
help you to boost your success.
Example most of us are habituated to take sugar in our tea or coffee and just cant
live without it.
Now just to make you aware of stats, sugar is 8 times more addictive than any normal
drugs and it kills almost 5 times more people than all other major drugs combined.
We know this, but still, we take sugar every day, just because its legal and acts as
a slow poison.
If we can start avoiding it from today, it will really be an unpleasant change for our
body and mind because this habit has become like a concrete and its not easy to break
something which has hardened like this over time.
But if at all we try to break this habit by substituting it with something else like sugar
free taste makers, exercising and following a really planned diet, we can get fit in no
time which can make us live longer and happier.
You see, habits are really important in our lives and it is one of the most neglected
things too.
So in this video series, I will be talking about how to cultivate good habits.
Moreover, I will help you guys identify your bad habits and how exactly to get rid of them.
We can work together on swapping bad habits with good ones and I will be giving many examples
of successful people and their good habits.
