[Narrator] Should I ask my parent about their deployment?
[Service Member's middle daughter] It might seem like it's an overload, but I would say,
"Just ask away" because the more open you are to deployment, the easier it becomes to
accept it. If you know, like when your parent is deployed, you get fed so many things that
aren't even true, from the news, from your friends who don't understand anything about
the military, from...just you get fed stuff that's not really true, one hundred per cent,
and so when your parent gets back, or even before they go or while they're there, any
time you have communication with them, ask them, because they are the only ones that
can tell you what you need to know. Ask away! [Oldest daughter] Yeah, that's good advice.
Because you're not going to know if you don't ask, and if you, if you, if you like put it
in a bottle, then it can turn, it can fester into resentment then all of a sudden you're
spewing out these questions full of hatred when you could have just asked them. So I
think it definitely helps. [Narrator] How do you encourage your children
to ask you about your deployment?
