Hi guys! Today we're taking a look to the Lakeland Skyline 4401
A medium price-range instrument with an excellent quality/price ratio.
The 4401 has a two pieces ash body and a maple neck and fretboard.
Hipshot Tuners
A three way electronics (bass, middle and treble) and an active/passive switch.
Balance control, and two beautiful Bartolini Mk1 pickups
The sound of the 4401 it's very defined.
The instrument also have a great sustain.
The first thing that we notice on the 4401 it's playability.
That's because of a special treatment that Lakland offers with this model
that it's a stock Plek treatment for the instrument when it comes out of the factory.
Let's talk about Plek...
Plek is a computerized machine designed and programmed for precision guitar measurement
fret dressing, nut cutting, and saddle cutting...
That allows the instrument to have perfect action and intonation.
We're testing the 4401 on the new EBS Redmark 250 head
that we'll review in a dedicated video-test.
We'll try the 4401 in passive mode at first
Disabling the three way eq
to listen more carefully to the sound of the pickups only.
Let's start with the bridge pickup.
Now let's try the active mode, with the three way EQ enabled
Let's take a look at the bass control...
Middle...
and now treble...
The EQ controls allow to always have very defined sounds
that can be used in every different musical situation.
From a modern and more defined kind of sound...
To a more vintage tone...
We roll down the treble, take up the mids and a little bit of bass
and then we iso the two pickups together with a little more neck pickup...
As you can ear, the sustain of the 4401 it's really impressive
and also is the intonation.
Talking about construction, the Lakland Skyline 4401 it's a "5 screw bolt-on neck" bass
And offers the possibility to choose between strings through bridge or through body.
In the end we can honestly say that the 4401 it's a well built and very playable instrument
especially thinking about the price range the 4401 it's fitted in.
The Lakland Skyline 4401 can be easily used for many different kinds of music
always providing a defined and recognizable tone.
Anyway I always suggest to try the instrument personally to see if it fits your needs.
That' all folks! See you next time!
