One of the most important things to consider when you have wet books is how long have they
been wet. You can have situations where a book is sitting around for a couple of hours
in water or a few days. Depending on how wet it is and how long it's been sitting around,
you're going to treat it differently. One of the biggest things to worry about in any
situation unless you happened to live in a desert is the growth of mold, the faster that
you can get a book out of water, the less likely you're going to have problems with
mold. Another thing to worry about is how damaged are the pages are going to get individually.
Certainly the longer that it takes you to dry a book out the more damage the book is
going to be. So what happens if you have an entire book case or even just a dozen or two
books what you can't get immediately if you only have a few books. One of the best ways
to preserve them until you can take care of them is to put them in the freezer you just
freeze them how they are. You want to lay them flat in the freezer if you can have something
in between them so that the books don't stick together and then that's even better. If you
have a few books you can just stack them in the freezer one on top of each other just
like this. If you have several books and you have a large freezer, then the best way to
do with them is put them on their spine or upright in a box. You don't ever want to have
them so that the pages are being pulled by gravity down because it's going to bring the
spine of your book. So if you have a large box and if you have the storage for it, you
can stick them all in the freezer and then deal with the books individually as you have
time.
