Hi everyone it's April with Hair 101 and today we are going
to cut Santa Clause's hair off and trim up his beard and i'm going to show you guys how
to do that. I might split the video up into two sections. Santa is done delivering all
of his presents to the boys and girls and now we need to make him look ready for summer.
So we are going to start here this is actually really grown out and we are going to take
it really short and then on top we're going to have it just about there. just enough to
go back we usually do do him a little bit longer but like I said it's summer coming
up so he needs some some shorter hair and then we're leaving the beard and the mustache
so we are going to just shape that up and trim and i'm going to show you how to do that
so right now we're going in really short i'm going to take the comb and stick it right
in underneath all the facial hair and everything and blend that up so since i'm doing both
i'm going to start on this sideburn and blend all this with the comb as my guide just to
keep a little bit of the length there and then i'm going to go in here and just start
taking out some of this bulk. Just so we can see what we're doing How I do that is I lift
the hair up and run the clippers across and then you can start to see where the hair is
going and how much you need to take off from there so we are going to go pretty short.
and I have my blade open because I don't want it to be as short as it can go i'm trying
to blend it from really short all the way up and you could use a number one if you wanted
to do that but we are not using the clipper guards today alright so right here we have some friendly
ear hairs we are going to take those off by running the clippers over them it's what happens
when you get older right Santa? it's kind of like deer and everything else that grow
those antlers out. Men grow ear hair. ear hairs yep It's kind of because he's around
those reindeer so many hours of every day so alright then I open my clipper back up
and we're going to start in the back and just fade up so this is a flick of the wrist you
start low and you flip it up and you have to stay right where you are working so I am
moving a lot and I apologize but you can't reach around to do this or it doesn't work
i'm going to keep going all along the back I bet that hurt it was just my cape there
we go so if the hair is too thick sometimes you can go in like this to get a little bit
of that bulk off before you taper it up that's probably what happened with those clippers
a minute ago alright now we're back on the other side so we are going to do the same
thing i'm going to start right in here where the beard comes down and trim that up and
don't forget these little antlers get rid of those you don't really need to ask people
to cut off the ear hairs most people don't know they're there and i'm pretty sure that
most people if they did know they were there they wouldn't mind you cutting them off but
if you do want to ask you can I would just go ahead and take them off that's what I do
makes it a little less awkward if you are nervous to ask them about ear hairs I'm not
scared to talk about ear hairs though right Santa? we do it all the time one of our favorite conversations
okay so around the ear I go up and around like this and i'm keep ing the
angle of the clippers away from the head up there so that it gives it that tapered look
okay then with the comb you can take clipper over comb and blend in that line that you
established okay so any time on the neck when you're trying to remove hairs that are really
fine you need to go against the way that they grow in order to get them in the comb if you
just follow the way that they grow it doesn't really work as good okay so now we're going
to blend up this section right in here you can see it has a heavy line from where we
tapered it up i'm going to take the comb in from the short area and go around in that
section and blend it up with the clippers I'm continuing to blend this up
and then right in here you can see that there's a line there so we are going to blend that
all the way around we are trying to make this look smooth now then we'll cut the top in
a minute when we have the sides looking good and I like to use my mirrors right here I
like to come right in and get right behind their head and then you can see how the shape
is turning out because one of my pet peeves with hair cutting is when they have this really
really short and then too early it bumps out into this big bumpy weight-line and then they
have this funny shape up here so this needs to be blended really nice from the front of
the face where it goes from skin to hair should be blended and tapered and also from the ear
up to the roll of the head should have a nice shape to it it shouldn't be alien like so
we are going to go ahead and take care of that so the way I do that around the face
is I usually push this hair forward lets get this out of the way first there we go I push
this hair forward and then I take it off and that usually tapers it up from the front of
the face and it helps with the shape a lot too and then I keep checking and seeing where
that heavy weight-line is that I need to be blending out and going in with the clippers
and smoothing out that line if there is one the taper should be in there pretty good you
can go with your T-edgers and clean up any other little things in here but you could
leave the top longer we're going to cut it short if you wanted to have like a longer
taper haircut you wouldn't have to cut as much off the top so you could adjust this
haircut to whatever you want it to look like it's more the basic skills that i'm showing
you of just using the clipper and the comb so little tricks like this pushing all the
hair forward and cutting off and then when it goes back it's nice and tapered and the
little trick of looking right behind them or you can also go right in front of them
and look down the profile this way to get that profile of the sides so you can go behind
them or in front of them to get that either way is good I do both usually I still remember
that deal with the kid in the post office though standing there and driving his dad
nuts his dad bends over and he whispers something and points in my direction kid looks out from
between his legs then he was like a little soldier from then on you gotta be good because
santa is watching then he goes to leave and he gets almost to the door and he breaks from
his dad and he says I know who you are you're Santa! and the whole place went nuts! thats
awesome alright now i'm going to go ahead and establish the top length you can see these
little areas that we cut already from the sides that are going to come up no Santa doesn't
have horns so we are going to take that and match it up to those two areas i'm going to
point cut and I always hold this a little bit forward just a little bit so that these
hairs that are reaching they usually like widow peak we don't want those to be a ton
longer so i push it forward a little bit and then I point cut into it i'm going to try
to make sure that those blend and check the length on it there's a lot of hair so i'm
going to take just the mohawk section there we go that's easier to hold onto so go through
the mohawk section and i'm going to cut straight across i'm going to try to keep it a pretty
flat line i'm going all the way to the back and then i'm going to switch right here to
move to the other side make sure it's wet mist it with some water if it's starting to
dry out and then i'm going to connect that little mohawk section with this back section
because when you're over here and you're cutting you don't want to start cutting like this
because your arm is raising up in the air so you're going to switch over here so you
can keep your arm relaxed and then you're going to go from this guide up and meet that
mohawk up so we have the entire mohawk section blended and ready to be our guide for the
rest of the top now that we got that mohawk section done we're going to go in and do horizontal
sections along both sides and we're going to be bringing it up pretty straight up and
flat and then we're going to do one more blend around the edges all of this should be coming
up and then you should be cutting it straight across and there is that little guide in there
you just need to find it there it is so anytime i'm doing the right side of the head i stand
right behind for this haircut and then to do that little side section to blend it in
you're just blending in the taper to the already cut top section so it's kind of split into
three areas in my head I do the mohawk I guess five so it's the mohawk and then these two
sections and then these so 12345 yeah he's looking handsome ok now we're going to do
this side ...... hair white as snow it's platinum yeah he's got awesome hair you gotta love it okay so
really quick i'm going to go along this back section and make sure that all the sides match
up to the top and taper i'm moving around his head okay so now i'm back on his left
side and i'm going to be facing him and i'm going to be cutting this way so this is another
reason why you are doing this is to keep your arm at a natural place you don't want to be
getting your shoulder up in the air when you're cutting you need to move around to make it
comfortable for your body and it also gives a really good angle for this side to be cut
like this if you were over her and trying to cut down look how your elbow is so always
make sure you're moving to the best spot to be cutting that section so i'm pulling hair
forward and i'm going to be cutting from this tapered section up to that top guide this
is not a ton of cutting right here it's like a little point that comes off and you can
see it right there it comes to a point you're just rounding that out somebody asked me why
do you do that? well i've just found that it helps me cross-check the hair so I don't
have little pieces that I missed and I am loving this haircut on him look how cool he's
got this little mohawk going on he could be styling Justin Bieber style on Santa Clause
no. now he's mad go through and make sure you don't have any high pieces you can even
cross-check we did sections horizontally so cross checking you would be pulling the hair
up vertically and checking for any mountains and valleys that are really obvious that you
need to knock off there we go there is a little bit long section so after you do that just
give one more look at it make sure that you like everything that's going on you don't
have any holes or long spots just dust the ends of places that look a little bit long
check your perimeters and check your profiles also you're going to be going this way this
is one of the profiles so it looks a little bit long right there checking this profile
maybe a little bit long right there just take that up with the scissors afterwards these
little finishing touches that's going to make a big difference makes the difference between
a haircut and a chop job chop job and a haircut see there we go alright so the very last step
is i'm going to take the T-edgers around the perimeter and clean up any neck hairs and
make a nice straight line i'm going to go in like this and bring that hair in and taper
it up a little bit more from any long neck hairs that he has and then i'm going to go
in and make a nice line then i follow around the ear a lot of the time you'll have a few little hairs
that don't get cut in here and these get in there really nice and you can go through if
you missed any on the ears i'm going to blow dry this and then put some water wax by redkin
in it and i'm blowdrying it back with my fingers okay so this is the water wax it's a three
hold from redkin shine define pomade it looks like this it's like water looking it looks
like water but it feels like jelly so you use a little bit in your fingers rub it around
and this gives a little bit of texture a little bit of hold it's like a softer gel but it
won't make the hair have those glue blobs in it like you normally would with a regular
gel that's hard to wash out of your hair and stuff it's just a little bit softer and you
should still be able to comb through it with this i'm very happy with the way this works
considering I wear a western style hat it doesn't leave anything on the hat. hair always
looks good when I get done and take it off. well that's good see Redkin water works don't
even get hat hair that's how cool this stuff is alright that's the end of our video for
just the haircut part I hope that this was helpful and be good because Santa is watching
you and I know it's only February but that's when you need to be good anyway he's already
checking that's right you heard it from him he's already checking be good! and we'll see
you guys next time and give me a thumbs up because this time I didn't drop my comb yay!!
