Are you making the most of your time at business networking events?
I'm Denise O'Berry and you're watching the "Little Big Show."
Your place for bit sized tips that can have a big impact on your bottom line.
For every small business owner, networking is a key ingredient to success.
But if you don't do it properly, it can turn into a total waste of time and who can afford
that? You can make the most of it by implementing
these nine business networking tips. #1 Have a networking goal.
Why are you there? Who do you want to meet?
What do you want your outcome to be? Decide that before you go to the event.
#2 Network in the right places. Does the function include possible prospects,
strategic alliances, or will it build your professional skills?
Anything less is just a total waste of your time.
Make sure you make the most of it. #3 Have your 30 second introduction ready.
Make it sound natural, not sales pitchy. #4 Listen.
Think silent. Use the 80/20 rule.
You would be listening 80% of the time and talking 20% of the time.
#5 Make the first move. Smile.
Shake hands firmly. Bean introducer.
#6 Where your name tag on your right. Make it easy for people to identify who you
are. #7 Show up early.
Be the greeter. It is so much easier to be one of the first
people at an event, so that you can meet people as they come, then it is to walk in to a room
full of strangers. #8 Welcome strangers to your table.
Don't act like a grump if somebody you don't know wants to sit there.
That person could be your next prospect or customer.
#9 Carry a pen. Jot notes on the back of business cards about
first impressions or commitments you've made to people during the function.
These nine tips will give you a head start over your competition at your next business
networking event. If you'd like 90 more tips to help you network
