Hey!
Hey guys it's Ruby Rose here I'm at the BackMeUp campaign launch and it is going swimmingly!
Because look at all my new friends.
How's it going?! (cheering)
And you guys are all here to Back Me Up, right? (Yeah!)
That's right!
Welcome - Ladies, gentlemen, special guests and students to the 2013 BackMeUp campaign
launch for the Australian Human Rights Commission. (clapping).
It's particularly special for us. And the stats are really shocking.
1 in 10 people are being bullied and 1 in 5 have witnessed someone being bullied. So
I want to ask you to do something for me.
I want you to stand up if you've been cyberbullied.
If you've witnessed somebody being bullied, cyberbullied - stand up.
Wow!
That's a lot!
Hi I'm Todd Nester, and I'm one of the ambassadors for the BackMeUp campaign.
I would've never have guessed that you were a victim of cyberbullying and face-to-face
bullying.
What actually helped you pick yourself up and go "You know what, I'm not gonna allow
myself to be miserable and lonely. I'm gonna speak out, reach out, do something." What
gave you the strength to do that?
Ah - it was probably 'coz I had one of my mates - I could talk to about the bullying
and stuff and I just went to him and, you know, he told me "Oh - just don't worry about
it Todd, I'm here for you."
If you put yourself out for somebody else, you could make their day, you could make their
life, you could change that moment. I believe in this campaign.
I think you should all get involved.
And I don't think that in this room there are bullies, victims and bystanders. I think
you're all humans and that even if you bullied someone this morning, even if you bullied
someone last week, even if you bullied somebody every day up until today - you can still stop
that now and be a better person.
