Hello guys, this is Ilias the Ranting Greek Gamer and today we are reviewing Attack on Titan.... chapter 50.! :)
Yeap, i decided to start reviewing the Attack on Titan manga as well.
I realize that the anime might be more popular than the manga in the anime community,
as i also understand that the manga isnt discussed very much, in order to avoid certain spoilers, e.t.c, e.t.c,
but reading the new chapter this week, it was honestly such a kick-*** chapter and with so many revelations,
with great pacing and plot,
so that made me decide to do reviews of the Attack on Titan manga.
Its going to be once a month anyway, if im not mistaken, this manga is a monthly release.
(not tottaly sure but i think thats how it goes).
So anyway: I decided to review it.
NOTE to anyone who might be watching the review at the moment, we are talking about BIG spoilers here.
So to all of you who do not want to see whats gonna happen and prefer to wait till next April when the new anime season will be out,
i suggest that you do not watch this review.
But to anyone who is interested, do watch it, because we are talking about amazing development in the AoT universe.
The chapter begins by continuing the events of the previous one,
meaning that the Titan who ate Eren's mother, appears in front of him after many years,
to be honest i didnt expect that this specific Titan was still alive and kicking,
but he appears in front of Eren and Mikasa,
and both of them are completely dumbstruck.
They never expected to see in front of them the Titan that changed their lives essentially,
who charges to Eren and Mikasa in order to grab them and eat them.
And at that point, Eren has a flashback about his mother who told him that he should protect Mikasa at some point.
And this is something that i have been saying in my past Attack on Titan reviews,
that Eren should finally "mature" at some point,
and that he should start protecting Mikasa and not the other way around that is happening all the time.
At that moment however, we have Hans, another flashback from the past,
who charges onto the Titan in order to kill him,
saying that eventhough he didnt do it 5 years ago because he was afraid,
this time he plans to keep his promise.
Meaning, to kill the Titan and protect Eren and Mikasa in the process.
And the scene ends with Hans fighting the Titan.
Then we go to another part of the battlefield, to Ymir and Historia,
where Ymir isnt too sure about what she has to do.
It seems that her only goal is to stay with Historia as much as possible,
its obvious that there is a very strong bond between those two characters.
So Historia tells to Ymir that she doesnt care about whats going to happen,
the only thing she cares about, is sticking together as they are now,
and they will face whatever obstacle comes to them later on,
regardless if it is a human threat or a Titan threat.
Things change drastically in the Battlefield however,
when Hans dies at the hands of the Titan that ate Eren's mother,
(The Titan basically bites him in half... yikes... Mother of God... )
And Eren has another of his emo moments, where he hits his arms to the ground,
and says that he was unable to help and protect his loved ones once again,
just like he wasnt able to protect his mother.
and for the first time after a long time,
we have Mikasa confessing to Eren about her feelings,
well not exactly that...
She is basically thanking him, because she owes her whole existence to him from her sayings.
And at the moment where we thought that there was going to be something romantic happening between them,
Eren gets up and stands his ground against the Titan that ate his mother (sheesh, i wish he had name or something :P )
he says to Mikasa with tears in his eyes that they are going to be always together from now on,
and while the Titan reaches his hand to eat him,
Eren doesnt transform into a Titan, but throws a simple punch towards the Titan's hand.
But its then when things get crazy:
(and its something that Reiner, Ymir and Bertold felt as well)
the Titan's hand gets back - it doesnt continue its course to grab Eren.
And a Titan appears from nowhere behind Eren and charges onto the Titan that was going to eat him!!
But its not only him: ALL the Titans that were on Reiner who were trying to stop him,
they all charge towards the Titan who ate Eren's mother and they start devouring him.
And i was like this o.O when i saw that scene!
But not only that, we also see Reiner saying the following words:
That this ability fell to the hands of the most dangerous person alive.
And basically all this means that... THIS is Eren's ability.
THIS is the special ability that Eren has, as a human who has the Titan DNA in him.
I mean like Annie had the ability to harden any part of her body,
or Berhtold who is very tall and has the ability to let out all that hot steam from his body,
or Reiner who is basically a big Titan in armor,
just like the others, in my opinion, THIS is Eren's special ability.
Its the ability to control the other Titans and command them at will.
Which is honestly, the most terrifying ability in existence.
And not only that, but we see a second demonstration of his ability,
when Eren sends the Titans towards Reinder and Berhtold,
and all the Titans charge towards them and stop them.
giving to the others a chance to escape.
So this is Eren's true power from the looks of it,
the ability to control the other Titans and command them at will.
A power that transcends all common sense.
And an amazing revelation as well.
And in the midst of all this mayhem,
Erwin sees the chance and commands everyone to retreat and escape,
But there is a little difference:
Ymir didnt follow Historia and went back to help Reiner and Berhtold.
It surprised me that Ymir left Historia and went on to help the other two,
especially when it seemed that they were going to have this unbreakable bond.
And the chapter basically ends there.
We are talking about a kickass chapter from all aspects :P
especially about the revelation of Eren's ability.
I already explained you a lot about it, but as Ymir said later on,
its an ability that can change the world basically.
And it seems that there is definetly a connection between that ability and Eren's basement,
i dont know what kind of injections Eren's father did on him,
but he gave him a lot more powers than what we originally thought.
Now i dont know if he will be able to use this power easily,
because Eren already had and still has difficulties in controlling his Titan form alone,
but Eren has now become more important than ever before.
And im very curious to see, when they get back to the city,
about how will all the goverment officials react to this.
I mean Eren's ability.
Because im afraid that many people will consider it as a threat.
But still, its the most amazing character development for Eren that i have seen until now.
As for Mikasa, i have to say that i am a little bit surprised...
because when i thought that she was going to make a love confession,
she just told him that she owes her very existence to him.
(although i was sure that there was going to be a kiss in the end)
Buuut, that didnt happen... Eren got up in the most critical moment :P
And he said to Mikasa that they are going to be together from now on and they he will protect her from anything.
And i believe that this made Mikasa very happy.
I think that she was waiting to hear those words for a long time now.
They dont hold the same weight as a " I love you" for example,
But i think that she was satisfied ^_^
I was sad to see Hans die, because even if he was a character that we didnt see very often in both the anime and the manga,
He was the character who changed (and saved) Eren and Mikasa's lives.
And seeing him die, it felt like the cycle is finally complete.
I believe that he did that, maybe to redeem himself about what he did in the past,
because if you remember the last time when he encountered that Titan,
he didnt try to kill him because he was afraid and he stepped back.
And he picked up Eren and Mikasa and left and their mother was left to die.
but it seems that he wanted to redeem himself for his cowardice back then and he charged to the Titan with no second thoughts.
So i believe that even if Hans died, he died satisfied.
Now as for Reiner and Berhtold,
i dont know whats gonna happen, but frankly, im not interested either.
I really cannot understand what motives these two have.
Ofc the manga author isnt giving us many details as to why they are doing the things they are doing,
but seeing them stop from Eren's power,
i was happy to see that because those two were really starting to get on my nerves.
As much as i like Reiner as a character and hope that he will have a change of heart in the future,
no, he was really starting to *** me off,
and im happy that everyone managed to get away.
And thats all, this was my review of this chapter of the Attack on Titan manga,
i thank you all very much for watching,
be well, have a good week,
and i will see you all laters, take care :)
