Thermage is a treatment that’s designed mostly for people who are concerned with moderate
skin laxity, mild to moderate skin laxity. If they are concerned with especially the
jowling areas, around the eyes, if they are concerned with crepiness or hooding around
the eyes it’s a fantastic procedure for that. This procedure is the basis for pretty
much anything else that you’re going to be doing in the office. There is nothing else
that we do that is going to stimulate the deep collagen in the facial areas the way
Thermage will. When you come in, you’re going to be seen by a nurse, we’re all nurses,
we’re all highly qualified, highly qualified to do it. We’ve all been doing it for many,
many years. Dr. Sapra is going to come in and give the recommendation as well. Then
we’re going to take some detailed photographs, we’re going to look at the consent form,
and then we’ll start the procedure. The procedure takes anywhere from one hour and
a half to two and a half hours depending on what you’re having done, especially if you’re
going to include the eye area. What it’s going to be doing is it’s using radiofrequency
to help stimulate the collagen that’s underneath the skin’s surface. When it does that, it
gives a really nice tightening effect and refined look to the skin. It varies from person
to person, it can be anywhere from an irritating heat, to a fairly intense warmth, but for
the most part, it’s very very tolerable. There’s not a lot of downtime from this
procedure, that’s one of the nice things about it. Most people have this treatment
done and they can go straight back to work afterwards, and no one will knows they have
had anything done. The results can last from anywhere from a year up to five years. It
really varies from person to person. As a general rule of thumb, we lose about 1 percent
or so of our collagen every single year so what we’re doing with this treatment is
stimulating the collagen that’s there, but eventually it will break down again. So usually
people will have to maintain their results with a treatment every one to two years. Some
of the things you can do to help your results last longer is to use good sun protection,
because the sun does break down collagen, which doesn’t mean that you’re going to
melt like an ice cream cone when you go in the sun, but it does mean that you are definitely
helping your skin to maintain its skin tightness.
