Hi. Vickie Siculiano here from Say WOW Marketing helping you with smarter online marketing
strategies. I have a question for you. Do you wonder how you can optimize your LinkedIn
profile and get found? Do you struggle with all the ways that there are to optimize your
LinkedIn profile because LinkedIn wants you to be 100% complete and you're almost there
every time? No need to look anymore. Today, we're just
going to focus on one strategy to get you found and to get people really interested
in what you have to offer. That's your LinkedIn headline, so stay tuned.
Welcome to the most overlooked piece of LinkedIn property, your headline. Now, your headline
is a way you can leverage your LinkedIn presence for your business, or maybe you're somebody
looking for a job, whatever it is, you can't ignore the importance of your LinkedIn profile
headline. Now, it's 120 characters, 20 less than a tweet.
It's yours for the taking. It sits right below your name and it comes up in search. Whenever
you're searching for somebody, it tells you the name and it tells you their headline.
Now, it's your brand statement, your core marketing statement, it's your wow. It's the
hook that makes someone want to reach out and find more about you.
Now, I love analogy, so if you want to think of it like a landing pad ů Not a landing
pad, a runway. You're trying to get planes to come in for a smooth landing. All the people
that you want to have view your profile are like planes. You want to have this nice and
crystal clear, what it is that you do. It speaks directly to the audience that you want
to entice, your value proposition. Be very specific.
I'll tell you a couple of ways that you can do this. You can do this by putting in the
"who," who you are, who you help, and how you help them. I am going to go ahead and
edit my profile just to show you where this is. Now, if you want to take a look at this
video, you're listening to a podcast, this video is on YouTube so you can check out anytime.
I always like to show how I do stuff. This little pencil here, if you click that, you
can edit. Just click in anywhere in the space. Now, I'll explain to you what I did. In my
profile, I included that I am an online marketing coach. That's exactly what I do. I know that
you may have to figure it out because you may do a couple of things but pretty much,
the thread of all of your work experience, who you are, is right here in the front. If
you also want to include your location, where you are if you want to do local marketing,
you can include the location, the state, country, whatever it is but you see this symbol right
here? This is a pipe. This sits right above the enter button. You had shift pipe. Brackets
and pipes, it's something that we use in online marketing all the time as a nice separator
between pieces of copy . Then, I list all the things that I do. Smarter
Online Marketing Podcast Host, and how I help them. I empower them. I empower small business
owners. This is mine. I am going to take a look now at a couple of other experts who
have done this right. This is going to take a little work but I guarantee you, this is
the best effort that you can undertake when optimizing your LinkedIn profile, and you
don't know where to start, and that is where I really like to help when people are just
overwhelmed. They are losing sleep. They don't know how to do this. Oh my God, it's the worst
thing in the world. I am not a 100% complete as LinkedIn wants me to be with my profile.
Just start somewhere. Start with your headline. I am going to show you a couple of people
who I really admire, and I think do it right. This is one of my mentors in this phase of
LinkedIn marketing is Lewis Howes. This is his headline. He is an author with a great
picture, right? Also, we'll talk about pictures in the future but get a nice picture that
really captures who you are professional. He is the author of the number one LinkedIn
and webinar Book, Pipe, Five Internet Gurus who can make you rich by Details Magazine
and Sports Media. He loves to be in sports. That's who he is so he makes sure that that
keyword is in his headline, and it's all wormed throughout his profile too.
We're going to take a look at Guy Kawasaki who is going to do it in a few words. So many
people know who he is, and so many followers that he has. He just wants to make this catchy
and interesting. He says, "My mantra is to empower people." That's pretty much it. People
know who Guy Kawasaki is all throughout social media. Let me take another look at one more.
I am going to show you that we have more people than you think will be on LinkedIn. Can you
believe the President of the United States is on LinkedIn? Quite simply, he's President
of the United States of America. That's great. That's just the headline.
I would just want to show you that everybody's headline is the place to capture information,
and you can have a pencil, and you can edit. It's very simple. The way you do is you go
to profile, edit profile, edit profile, and you click on that pencil, and it is yours
for the taking. You're going to need a little work in this but I highly, highly recommend
this. This is going to get you launched like no other thing in your profile that's here.
That's all the way down in your profile. You have a lot of real estate that LinkedIn gives
you. Look at all of that information you have. All of your recommendations and everything
else further down your profile. Work on the stuff that's right up in front that is going
to get you found and searched. I am going to take a look on online marketing
so I can show you what your headline will do for you. Online marketing. We're going
to look in People. There we go. This person comes up for online marketing just pretty
much number one. I am going to take a look at online marketing in New Jersey, and there
I am. That's why I included New Jersey because if there are local people here, hey, I want
to help them. I am in New Jersey. This is a great way to optimize your LinkedIn profile.
Put it in your headline what you do, where you are, and how you're going to help people.
