(Stephanie ***) Hi, I’m Stephanie ***, a senior form Loris,
South Carolina majoring in English at Clemson.
Thank you President Barker for joining us today for our Video Campus Update from the
Clemson Conference Center and Inn and the restaurant Seasons by the Lake. What can you
tell us about the conference center as a whole?
(President Barker) It’s a wonderful facility… a great piece
of architecture here on our campus…beautiful setting right on the lake. It has had a significant
impact on the economy of our community: a $14 million annual impact. We host 100,000
guests here every year with about 1700 events on an annual basis as well. It has been a
wonderful first impression for many people that they see their first image of Clemson
as this facility, which is a tremendous asset for us. We have hosted the Canadian ambassador
here when we dedicated the Canadian Center. We have also hosted the German ambassador
who spent almost a week here at Clemson and used this facility as his base to learn more
about this institution. So it has been a significant addition to the Clemson campus.
(Stephanie ***) And it certainly is beautiful here as well
with the conference center overlooking the golf course and Lake Hartwell. When was it
built?
(President Barker) It was built, two of the parts of this complex
were built in 1995, the Madren Center and the golf course. And then the hotel, The Martin
Inn, was added three years after that.
(Stephanie ***) And we are currently sitting in the restaurant
Seasons by the Lake, which looks completely different than it did six months ago. What
can you tell us about the new renovations?
(President Barker) Well, people need to come see it for themselves
because it is a major transformation. It has been opened up considerably and it’s oriented
more strongly to the lake. Joe’s Place has been completely redone as well. So it is a
much more user-friendly and much more handsome, I think, and a much more oriented to the water
facility than it was before the renovation and I’m very proud of it.
(Stephanie ***) Well, thank you so much for joining us today
President Barker.
(President Barker) My pleasure, Stephanie. Thank you very much.
Go Tigers!
(Stephanie ***) We hope you enjoyed this edition of Campus
Update with President Barker. So long from Clemson and Go Tigers!
