2009, I had no idea how 4LYN should sound like in the future.
I just knew there had to be something where people say,
"That's cool, but that's 4LYN?", when they hear it the first time.
You have to give this album recognition. It's great.
I'm constantly asked by fans:
"What was going on, we don't hear any news of 4LYN?
We parted from our record company in late 2008, early 2009.
And it was a stressful time, because we had a lot to do with lawyers, and so on ...
One of the hardest things was that
we could not explain it to our fans.
We could only say: "We're currently taking a break."
That was a hard and stressful time for all of us.
We are glad we did it that way.
Now it's time for new tasks, in order to establish where we left off a few years ago.
And we do that now with the sixth album "Quasar".
I would imagine that the picture has changed a bit.
I got to hear for the first two years: "The new guy,
the new guy, and so on, and the expectations are high.."
First and foremost, of course, Dennis is responsible,
that we are again approached from scratch on the matter.
In addition, his guitar playing has an influence on the songwriting
and the sound, too.
I think the next album is the foundation for
that we are accepted in this band constellation.
I think it is an important step for us.
Social criticism was honestly never been an issue in 4LYN.
Especially not in my lyrics.
Meanwhile, it is also true that we live in an age full of protests.
More than ever around the globe.
And suddenly Ron writes lyrics like "Someones God 2 Do it"
or "Hello Planet",
and you realize it's about topics that we have never discussed before in the band history.
We are more concerned than before. And it all comes automatically,
it was never planned. It just happened.
4LYN was never a political band per se,
but we know what we can use as a tool for us to
highlight certain issues carefully.
Without going to sound like a schoolmaster,
but you can definately get things moving, even on a small scale.
And we do it just now.
Ron: Yeah, of course I can go to any protest march,
but I can also write the soundtrack for it.
The title for "Quasar" came quite quickly,
although we had worked an insanely long time on it.
We were sitting in Dennis' kitchen for at least 8 hours ..
.. and, at the moment, as we have stopped thinking about it, Dennis said something ..
He said: "What do you think of "Quasar"?"
We looked at him and said ...
"Awesome word."
.. because a quasar is a massive, pulsating star,
with enormous energy that makes him seem so bright.
I think Professor Harald Lesch could explain it better than me ..
Since this Sunday it was clear:
Our new album has to be called "Quasar".
We were hooked and when it came to the ideas of artwork
and typeface, it all fit.
Quasar.
