We're joined by Shannon Finch, who's a Partner in the Mergers & Acquisitions team at King
& Wood Mallesons, Shannon than you so much for joining us on BRR Media.
It's a pleasure.
Now Shannon the Government has just released draft legislation to overhaul the corporate
bond market, what does the policy seek to do and what are the main changes?
Well these are really important reforms, but they're actually very simple. What they're
introducing is a short form of prospectus for simple offers of retail bonds. And the
idea is to remove one of the key impediments to retail bond offers that has probably discouraged
boards from offering to retail before.
And do you think the legislation in its current form is sufficient to drive the corporate
bond market?
Look it can't do it by itself, there's no silver bullet here, there's no one magic solution,
but this is a really important part of the infrastructure that needs to be brought together
to encourage a retail bond market, it's changes to disclosure, changes to liability and so
I think it's an important part of the puzzle.
And just finally what are your predictions for the market for 2013?
Well for retail bonds look I'm hoping that we will see some major issuers take advantage
of these reforms, it's not going to open a flood gate though, so I think we'll see maybe
a steady trickle.
Well some interesting predictions there Shannon, thank you so much for joining us today.
You're welcome.
