Hi, I'm your Mayor Wayne Lee.
I want to talk to you today about very important piece of mail
that all Millbrae property owners will be receiving
beginning March 10th. The envelope will look something like this:
In the front it will have official ballot
This is not junk mail. Please
open and read the documents carefully. The current fire assessment
will expire on June 30th. This ballot
is for a replacement fire assessment and will be mailed to all Millbrae property
owners.
Without a fire assessment there will be a 1.5 million dollar hole
in our fire services budget. In addition
both our sales taxes and property
taxes are down. A combination of these economic factors
and failure to approve a fire assessment will result
in devastating cuts to city wide services.
The amount being assessed is $174.83
a year or $14.57 a month
for single-family 1 to 2 unit resident.
Assessment rates will be fixed for a ten year period.
If approved, a fire assessment will generate approximately 1.5 million dollars a year
to help fund only fire suppression
services. State law requires
that fire assessment fund can only be used for
operating and maintaining fire suppression services
and equipment. In order to ensure transparency
assessment funds will be audited each year
by an independent accounting firm. Your ballot
will be your opportunity to guide the future of fire safety services
in Millbrae. Every vote is important. I and
each of your council members are very concerned about maintaining critical
services
that we all depend on. The City Council
and city staff are striving to provide essential fire services to our city.
Your vote will make a difference in delivering
those services. Ballots need to be returned to City Hall
prior to 5pm on April 22nd.
Please, if you have any questions regarding your ballot
or need information about the fire assessment, call the City Clerk at
650-259
2334 or visit
the city's website. Thank you and thank you for the opportunity to serve you.
