Hi everyone; Aquaman here with Water Wisdom sponsored by WaterFilters.NET. Today’s product
is the Pentek P5-20. Now, the P5 is a 5 micron polypropylene spun sediment filter. It is
a lot like the older style polypropylene string wound cartridges, but it’s manufactured
in a different way. The polypropylene in this instance is shot out of a gun like cotton
candy and then spooled into a cartridge. With the old string wound cartridges, the poly
was woven into a string and then the string was spooled into a cartridge; they’re nearly
identical. This one is a 5 micron cartridge. That’s extremely small; that’s 5 times
smaller than a speck of milled flour; perfect for removing sediment from any untreated water
source. I say untreated water because one of the main benefits of polypropylene is that
it’s bacteriostatic, meaning microorganisms cannot live and grow on this media. So if
you’re filtering water from a well, or pumping water out of a lake or a stream or a pond,
or capturing rainwater into a cistern and filtering that water, those are untreated
waters that could have microorganisms growing in them and that’s ok to use this filter,
because they can’t live and grow here. This is a 20 inch long 2.5 inch diameter industry
standard size cartridge. There are thousands of filter housings that take this industry
standard size. It’s got a great flow rate, because it’s pretty large. So you’ve got
a nice surface area here. Obviously significantly more surface area than its shorter cousin
the 10 inch long version. It can be used in whole house applications and they’re very
commonly used in industrial applications in large filter housing s that take multiple
cartridges. So again, this is the Pentek P5-20, just your basic polypropylene spun sediment
filter, perfect for untreated water sources. I’m your host Aquaman, and thanks for watching!
