Hi I'm WIlbur and I will follow with these videotutorials about how to make leather armor
pieces like this ones. Remember that this isn't the first video about how to begin this
process and now we will follow with the next steps. We are going to do something that is
pretty dangerous, well "dangerous", but if you work with a leather so thick it is very
indispensable. Right now this leather isn't flexible at all (it will be afterwards) but this
two parts come together. And on the top of that I have to put a belt. This is super thick.
So I have to lower a little the leather or I will have problems to close it. Then, to
lower the leather I will use a Leathercraft Swivel Knife Blade. I have this one, is not
the only kind. I guess that if you don't have this you can use a cutter or a razor blade
or something like that.. This is very sharpen, a lot, so you have to be careful. I already
cut myself. So I will wear a glove in the left hand. I know, this one is the right glove,
but, the pro answer to this is that this side is leather so is stronger than the other side.
Also I don't have any clue of where the left glove is. Whatever, protect your hand.
We are going to lower the leather of this 4 parts, you have to use it like this. Careful.Trying
to peel it like if you where peeling some potatoes I guess.
Damn. And whatever you do, please, don't make a hole in the epidermis.
I wanna cut this part, is too deep in the leather.
I wanna do ONE in video and the others off camera. If I don't do this I will be recording
until tomorrow and I will run out of batteries.
Look, in this is very visible, look how this one bends and the other one doesn't bend at
all. Later I will do the other three. let's go. When you have the leather lowered what
you have to do is take.... where is it now? The Edge Beveler, there it is. Did you see
it? It have like two little legs. This is used to make the edges more round. And latter,
when we seal it it well look very smooth. So I take the tool and use it in the Edges.
As you can see leather streamer comes out, I really like they.
Now what I will do is age a little the piece. I have to think where the belts go because
I don't want a battle scar under the belt, it doesn't make sense at all. What I use are
tools for working with wood. I bought these year ago in a Daiso store. They were pretty
cheap. I use specially the little one of the V shape. I think that these are used in linoleum
too, but I can't remember at all the name now. I simply (I don't think you will see
this) I carve the leather a little, making lines.
Until I like the look of these. I like to make it pretty thick. And I'm doing this in
these armors, because I think that Isabela may have this armors for quite long now, she
fought a lot of battles with them, also this woman is not rich and she lives in the
Hanged Man , a very low-town tavern, so I don't think that she maintain her armors very much.
For example, right now I'm using the cutter, so I can lower the edge to pretend that the sword
penetrated a lot, or the dagger, or whatever it was, And why I'm doing this right now?
Because I made the first one carving it before dying because I wanted to see the effect of
the battle scars dyed. If I really didn't liked it dyed, it will be easy to change it carving
again. But I really loved the way it comes out, so I have to do it before dying.
I made the edges before for the same reason, I want it to dye.
Sometime I use sandpaper to give it an eroded look.
Remember always if you have to put something on top of your piece,
it's not logic to have a Battle scar coming off from bellow it.
I'm going to make a cross, Kenshin style. And I think that's all. If I keep adding battle scars it will seem that Isabela can't fight at all.
See? I can make also some little cuts with the cutter. And with this other tool from
the wood ones I make some scars too. And we are done.
Now, next step and last step for today is moisturize it. So I wanna take my washbowl full of water.
And I wanna put the leather piece inside. Check that is all covered, not floating around. It's normal to bubbles
come out. OK then, now it have to be in the water for 10 minutes. This clock is working?
Yes, it is. OK 10 minutes moisturizing. It will change a little the color. Don't leave
it in the water more than 10 minutes, you can ruin it. OK? See you soon.
10 minutes passed, As you can see now the leather is super flexible. The shape you give
to the leather now is the shape it will have. Aaahh it's cold. I will try it on... Yes,
ok, Perfect. I will use now clothespin to make leather keep the shape I want until it
dries. You have to remember that any pressure that you will make to wet leather it will
leave a mark. Always. So if you want to have a very smooth and perfect leather, I recommend
you to don't use Clotherpin for it. I don't care about marks because I was aging it.
But maybe you will prefer to use some string or fabric. So now I have to leave it dry for
at least 24 hours so see you, tomorrow. If you liked this you already know where to find
me you can subscribe to the youtube channel, or not, or give a like to the fb page, or
whatever blahblahblahblah I hope it was useful Ah, of course, in the sun it dries quickly.
So, see you... tomorrow.
