This is the Artisan 30
This is the 30 Watt Class A combo
with four EL84s in the power amp
and also a GZ34 power rectifier.
In the power amp we also have the Power mode control
which allows you to switch between 10 Watts single-ended
or 30 Watts push-pull.
On to the preamp
– like on the Artisan 15 –
you also have an EF86 channel, which is Channel 1, this time
and an ECC83 channel, which is Channel 2, this time.
On the EF86 channel you have the Bass Shape control
which is basically moves
the bass response up in frequency as you go between 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
and also effects the low-mids
which I’ll demonstrate in a moment
Then on Channel 2
you have the Voice Control
which has two settings
Warm, which is like playing a “Plexi”
in the pre-emphasis of the circuit
and then Bright, which is like an AC 30’s sort of pre-emphasis.
You also have a Master Volume on this channel
which means you can get “crunch” at a lower volume
you can get more distortion and soft
enough distortion to play lead on this amp
So
I’ll first of all demonstrate the EF86 channel
and show you the Bass Shape function
just playing normally...
In position 1, you have a really tight bump.
In position 2
you can hear that
not only is it affecting the very low end, it's also affecting the low-mids.
you move through
a lovely, big warm sound.
Again you’ve got that lovely sort of valve compression and distortion
as it starts to break up.
So, on Channel 2, which is the ECC83 channel
[ the 1287 (??) channel ]
First of all, I’ll demonstrate the Warm voicing...
Moving on to the Bright voicing
this is where you can really crunch up the power amp.
with the Gain maxed out
