Welcome to UTA!
-Hi! I'm Ashley -And I'm Bryce
-We're here on the campus of UT Arlington to find
out what it actually means to be a Maverick.
We both commute, just like 20,000 other students
here at UTA. It's kind of a far drive, but we make
it ok. I'm from the Arlington area, so I expected
it to be just like high school, but I was really
surprised when I got here. There was so many different
people that I could make a lot of new friends.
We live here in KC Hall. It's the newest residence
hall on campus. I grew up in Arlington, but living
here has taught me a lot of responsibility. What's
surprising about UTA, is that there is always fun
activities to do, whether you are a resident
or a commuter.
The FIG program allowed me to actually get to know
students who actually have the same interests that
I do. Which is its purpose, Freshman Interest Group.
It also helps me get prepared for my other classes.
Some of the things that we do in those classes, I
had to get used to the college life first.
In the SAE team, which is really the Society of
Automotive Engineers. It is a Formula team.
They go out and build a formula spec car and race it
at competitions. It should be lots of fun.
You know you need a little time to wind down a bit.
So we will play video games from time to time. A
little Command and Conquer. Get the brain flowing.
I went to Connection Cafe, about two times a day.
Usually go for breakfast because they have just
about everything you could ever want or need. They
have waffles, fruit, eggs, bacon, biscuits.
It's awesome!
They have waffle irons there, so I made my own waffle.
Then I saw there was an ice cream bar, so I went
over there. I poured ice cream all over this huge
waffle. These are waffles this big around. And then
I went over to this area where they have cereal.
I pull on this lever and you can pour cereal all over
your stuff.
This food is much better than where I am from.
It is very nice here. I would not complain.
So I have a waffle, with ice cream, they also have
sprinkles and chocolate chips for the ice cream,
which I threw on the waffle and poured cereal all
over it, and you have the ultimate waffle.
My advice for incoming freshman is to have fun
because college is going to be one of the greatest
experiences you will face in life.
Really concentrate on their time management
As long as you study, you will be able to be fine.
My advice to incoming freshman would be to take
advantage of all the resources available. Such as
SOAR, a tutoring program, UTA Hosts!, a mentee/mentor
program, and Freshman Leaders On Campus.
A little advise for incoming freshman, get a day
planner. It helps you so much on your social events
and also your school work. There is just so much to do.
-But we are running late, so we got to go! -Yeah!
