When everyone escaped from their houses to take cover in the courtyard
There were boys who said "there's a gay guy here. He was the one who caused the earthquake.
He did a lot of bad things." I was afraid!
They even said they would kill all the gays that were in Haiti. We were forced to hide.
On January 12th, because my house was destroyed,
I had to sleep out on the street with a group of friends.
Some people came and harassed us. Not me personally but my girlfriend.
They slapped her. She was beaten in the street. They said "Women aren't supposed to live with only women",
"it was you who brought the anger of God upon us"
I don't not have the courage yet to tell my family I'm gay and that that is my *** orientation.
They'll throw me out, they'll throw me out on the street.
Being gay has always been difficult, but after the earthquake it became worse.
because everyone said "down with the gays, down with the gays."
The Church encouraged people to attack homosexuals. They said that we caused the earthquake.
And on the radio there were religious programs
Religious programs which preached that homosexuals were the messengers of the devil.
Discrimination based on ones *** orientation exists in Haiti,
And especially after the earthquake, we had the tendency to blame the homosexuals.
Because people did not have enough scientific knowledge to account for the earthquake,
even though this is changing bit by bit.
1,2,3,4,5. We are five inside this tent.
As you can see there is no wall. There's only a thin tarp that separates us from the others.
and every time we talk, others can hear.
There is no private life. There is no real intimacy.
Especially for gays, But you cannot repeat this!
My grandmother does not know I am gay, you understand?
We gays don't hang around the camp. We keep to ourselves.
We are scared they may throw stones at us. We are extremely careful about that.
Mister (KREOLE SHOUTING)
Do you know what she is saying? She says "massisi massisi" which means ***.
She sees me and my way of being, and she says "Its the ***, it's the *** he's with foreigners"
They have slashed his tent a number of times,
This is the kitchen. They have cut this with a knife
They have gone in and robbed him of all he had.
They stole the TV, his shoes. You had a radio
They threatened me, they threatened to kill me.
KREOLE (I'll kill you
Don't look at me or I'll cut your eyes out you ***.
Get out of here don't stay in the camp. Get out of here Faggots get out of here!
The fight will continue we want that people respect our choices and our *** orientation.
I 've made up my mind, I want to help women who get stigmatized and discriminated.
I pretend that I am deaf, I pretend that I am deaf, As if I hear nothing, as if I see nothing.
I just focus on myself, my family and my home.
