well this is big johnson were at the two thousand four jill long weekend event
and what a special honor for me an opportunity to spend a few moments with
a hero of mine
brian tracy's been shared with us this morning we got a few minutes now to to
get out and intimate with him so brian thanks for taking time out to visit with
thank you
run you have been a student of success i guess for forty years lesson you've
written
that success is predictable right i know the way you analyze things that you've
gotta have a great explanation force what do you mean about successes
predictable and found someone seeking that water some the key things i need to
be
doing looking out for whatever
well if you go into the kitchen to cook addition and to the very first thing you
get is a recipe
and you follow the recipe
and you work with the rest of the addressee you master that dish
went you *** it may take a few times
you can make the dish or over over again and you'll remember the recipe
you don't have to keep going back
to the recipe book
though somebody says boy that's really delicious you don't say well it's a
miracle like care
something out of who do
no you just followed a proven recipe that
have been worked out by people before you
and that's basically the secret of success
if you want to be successful in starting a business to a new study
where people have learnt in
everything the people's learned that written down or any sheraton seminars or
put under audio programs
and and learned this from a very wise man named cop cop wire who spent more
than fifty year studying success
and he had developed more than one thousand success principles that he had
drive down something like six thousand books
and when i met him i asked him the question you ask
of all these thousand pencils 'cause i'd stay till
which is the most important principle of all
and he said brian he said it simply said
used proven success methods he said we learn
from the experts
he said brian you'll never live long enough to learn or for yourself
so what i find is that successful people are those who learn from others who've
gone before them unsuccessful people try to make it all up
like a cook going into the kitchen
taking ingredients out of the coverage throwing them all in trouble
and wondering why it doesn't taste good
this is why people sales careers but eight percent of salespeople are
functioning
well below the potential
only twenty percent make all the money by twenty percent of businesses in any
industry make all the profits by twenty percent of the professionals and any
uh... service i'm making per cent of the money and so on
is because they follow proven success
proven recipes
proven formulas proven combinations let me just to them over and over again so
they masterton
then they can do it more and more of them faster and faster eastern asia at a
higher level of quality
all that translates into greater results
calif alling up on that obviously what it says to me if i'm going to get the
recipe for success are gonna have to find some people who already have
mastered the recipe so to speak this morning
you talked about getting around the right people how important that was what
sounds like on the same thing a pack of defined the recipe from the right people
outside of some of our fight this
where some places that if i'm looking for the right people
where can i find the right people are going to find the best wealth there's
two or three parts of that
first of all
we are where we are what we are because of the choices and decisions that we
have made in the past
uh... choices and decisions with regard to the jobs we take
the people we can work with the people we marry that with socializing
the investment we've made uh... the uses of our time soft
we're we're we're and what where we are what we are because of our choices and
decisions
so the starting point of
change in our life is to make new choices and decisions
which requires that we stopped making all choices and decisions that are not
helping us
in other words to get into something new you've got to get out
of something more
to start associating with positive people you've got to stop associating
with people who are not helping you
and european in many cases people realize they're going to have to break
off old friendships breakout of relationships i've seen this happen
countless just quit jobs
stop associating with negative uh... family members who are constantly
critical
is you're going to have to to reorient yourself
two more positive people
have a third principal that's so important is this
is that uh... there's a lot attraction in the universe
it says that you attract into your life people and circumstances in harmony with
your own thank you
so if you start to rei who really good material
set goals
and commit to your own personal development
strive to become good at what you're doing we listen to positive audio
programs associate with positive people like at the seminar
what happens is you setup force field energy that is invisible but it's tracks
into your life
people circumstances
possibilities opportunities
that would not have been there in the absence of your own change thinking
to all three conspire
stop making bad decisions start making good decisions start associated with
people who are
encourage you are in harmony with what you think
and entrust to this law of attraction to bring the right people in your life
i know you've written about setting up our thinking power thought
i've begun to make those changes in my life outcome
uh... very serious about amber dedicated dot
but i'm surrounded by some unsupported people that are not rated and
relationship with maybe a spouse maybe it's the calls in the past i haven't
followed through on some of the things and they think this is just another one
of those
what would you suggest i do how would i handle how to lock keep that proper
balance for instance in my thinking being positive at the same time im
someone very close to me they can have a negative impact though i do until that
person comes around
well there's the nashville tennessee when we hear rumors something great is
we want to convince everybody else out
uh... and you see this people who quit smoking suddenly want
there'd be no smoking in the world people who adopt a religion or political
philosophy want everybody to join
uh... the next day
but the uh... very best thing as i mentioned earlier in our seminar
is that you must teach man at the school of example
for they will learn it no other
so what you need to do is be an example and be an example for an extended period
of time
give yourself two three months maybe a year
of being the new person
when you go in and i don't miss is that everybody else going to die the next day
actually go on a diet
stay on the diet lose the weight but she's a level of financial fitness
can attract people so they come to say what is it that you're doing or was it
that you're reading
or what is it that you have that makes you different
only then when we reach out
do you offer to them
the flip side of this is that
in the main people dot ***
you can change did you find it
much easier to change if you're with positive people very hard to change with
people who don't want you to change you want you to be the person that you were
but in the main people don't change the so sooner or later in life you are often
quite have to make some hard choices
uh... in the short term uh... be the person s
has gandhi said be the change do you want to see in the world
be the kind of person that you want
and if that does not bring people around and be prepared
to go to the next uh... be prepared to walk away
something it interesting that you've taught along that i found remarkable
what you said that if your article now
increase your chances of success by thousand-person pretend overwhelming
now next to that when it comes to goal setting
what's the most important thing to do i've got it written down
obviously that's got power this clinic response success ten times what's the
next thing the next biggest thing in that process
ralph there's a process which has made more people rich
than any other single process of goals achieving
and is to take your major goal unstructured as a question
if your goal is to burn
one hundred thousand dollars a year
when you write how can i one hundred thousand dollars in the next twelve
points
that support than ended question not how can i turn it at my job or doing a
specific things just an open-ended question how can i earn my money
and then you discipline yourself to write twenty answers to the question
and the twenty answers are all the different things that you could think of
to burn a hundred thousand dollars
work longer uh... work harder and upgrade my skills
penises get a new job would take a part-time opportunity
uh... whatever happens to be
write-down everything you could think of that force yourself to write at least
twenty questions her twenty s just to the question
two-twenty question method called mind stormy
forces you to didi d indir mine
where you'll find all your answers
and it may be called a person uh... read a book
um... beginning sample we had uh... young fellow entrepreneurial thirty-five
years old he built his success essel business
he wrote about ten years to do it
and he for two years wanted to sell his business so we could take a year off and
travel
enjoy his money
and so for two years he just sort of
floundered around
like a fish on the dark
wanting to sell his business nobody uh... or offer to buy it
he suggested to people uh... people were not interested and so on
and in this exercise that they put him through
his twentieth century often it's the twentieth answer that is the
breakthrough
by a book on how to sell
your own business
and it just went off like a flash bulb in his mind
at the break he got up to the downtown hotel got up
went down the street to a major bookstore when we thought
he was amazed at the number of books have been written on how to buy and sell
a business
so he bought two or three books two months later he had restructured
packages business sold it completely
satisfactory to clear up
he said but just a single idea it was a breakthrough idea
but it was so simple just get a book on the substrate can you think point that's
pretty obvious yes
but it's them most obvious answers that we overlook
i know that uh... you built a lot of companies i know you coached a lot of
people who've built great companies
you've been inspiration and and mentor to a lot of people
i'm a person who have gone through maybe perhaps your goals exercise your very
thorough bills exercise i've put my goals down i've got all the objectives
in the past planned out
actions can syndicate star
in ninety days past time
and i still haven't gotten started now i'm at the point where i'm startin to
beat myself up and all what's the key after i've got the mechanics go to speak
and placed what what's the quarter now look for work and work and i look for to
get started this this is one of the biggest of all challenges its
procrastinate on starting on a major goal
and the way that you overcome it one of many ways
if you break the goal down into as many small steps as you possibly can
you make a list of every single step that you are to have to take to achieve
the goal
from the first one of clearing your desk or reading a chapter in a book or
making a phone call or and working out the financial plan so what you should
break it down into small enough steps henry ford said the biggest tests in the
world can be accomplished if broken-down into enough small steps
and what you've broken down enough small steps just do one step
sewn up all of these steps there are five minute ten minutes steps
have all the steps what would be a good place to start
and then you do just one thing
and maybe the next day do just one more thing
and what happens with in the mind is there's a natural momentum that once you
get into the rhythm
you start
to move forward
and
pretty soon you during the next step in the next upon acceptance so
all right uh... ahead fair good friend who had for years wanted to write a
business book
and tonight he was working from the separate the morning till nine or ten
o'clock at night hetal never had the energy to write
so funny so i'm going to write this book so i'm gonna write a one page at a time
so he rescheduled his life so he came home earlier
went to bed by nine o'clock
got up at five o'clock
wrote one page
that's up by the end of the year he had a three hundred fifty page book
and he published the book it became a great success
but it was just writing one page a date that enabled him to write a bestseller
