MICHAEL FERENCZI: The teachers of the Academic Upgrading
program, they really gave me the confidence to overcome
my barriers that I had around education and I was able to
succeed in that program and go on to a post secondary
education in the Social Service Worker program.
ASHLEY BOOTH: It’s a class for folks who want to upgrade their
reading and writing skills or wanna earn their grade 12
equivalency to then apply to a post secondary program.
So if you wanna come back to school for whatever reason,
you can come to our program; every three weeks we have new
intakes so you don’t have to wait ‘til September or January
but whenever you feel ready to make that change,
you wanna come back to school, you contact our
Academic Upgrading program, you attend an information session,
you write an assessment and into the program you come.
TONY PRIOLO: We are very fortunate to have been able
to be very progressive with our program.
We’ve gone through some major curriculum development and
really focusing on excellence in teaching and learning
for our students.
CHANTELL JACKSON: When I first walked in, it was welcoming.
The teachers wanted to be there which made me wanna be there.
JEFFERY PECK: Students develop a lot of soft skills including
time management, goal-- goal setting, study skills.
Basically all the things that you need in order to be
a successful post secondary student.
MATT FORAN: Our program is one of the biggest Literacy and
Basic Skills programs in the country and we have a really
wonderful staff who is here to support people’s needs.
Highly qualified faculty, highly qualified support staff and
