I see a liberal arts education
as something that encompasses the whole person.
It's not just about learning a specific trade,
it's not just about learning how to be an accountant,
or how to be a scientist
or how to be a PE teacher.
It's learning about how to be a whole person,
how to communicate well,
how to critically analyze things.
And those are skills that you need
in everything you do in life.
And you know, the things that we teach in history--
sure, we teach the names, dates, facts,
those sorts of things--
but we also teach how to think about history
and how to think about life.
And those are things that, you know, anybody can use
in any field that they go into,
and it makes them a better person,
it makes them a more well rounded person.
It makes them someone who can communicate
in lots of different environments
and relate to people
in lots of different environments.
