Good morning guys, this is Ilias the Ranting Greek Gamer and today we are reviewing Attack on Titan, episode 22
A pretty good episode once again.
The episode continues the battle between Levi & Mikasa against the Blonde Titan from last time,
and i have to say that Levi is REALLY kicking *** in this episode,
he hurls himself at the blonde Titan and (forgive the expression, i dont mean anything naughty :P ) he rips her body apart from top to bottom
it was incredible. His moves, his strikes, his fighting style, it was almost like looking at a human chainsaw at work,
he was attacking the blonde Titan and he was cutting her everywhere, arms, legs, eyes, nose you name it!
But seriously, it was unbelievable how Levi managed to corner her like this,
we are talking that the female Titan is one of the most formidable threats that mankind has ever faced for a very long time now,
and Levi who is only ONE MAN, he managed to do so much damage to her and take her out
it was unbelievable... i was watching Levi with my jaw dropped to the floor when he was fighting the Titan
So he manages with his attacks to take out the blonde Titan
and in the end they manage to save Eren.
About Mikasa, i have to say that i was expecting something more from her, regarding this battle
if you remember, i said in the last episode that i considered her Levi's equal,
but i was all wrong. Levi is classes above Mikasa in terms of combat skill and expertise.
and also, during the time when Levi and Mikasa were going to save Eren,
we see that Mikasa was not her usual "cold" self if you know what i mean,
which helps her to deal better with battles and difficult situations in general.
Mabe this happened because she knew that Eren wasnt safe and was not by her side as usual,
and maybe that "broke" her concentration and her composure.
Generally, Mikasa during the battle against the blonde Titan,
she was not the Mikasa that i remember from previous episodes.
i found her to be more sensitive than other times,
and i expected her to do more - not something as impressive as Levi, but something to help the averall situation a little bit better.
Anyway, Eren is saved and thats all that matters.
Although i have to say that the battle between Levi, Mikasa and the blonde Titan, it felt a little short.
it was if the animatiors where in a hurry to finish this part and then move on to the next scenes - at least thats how it looked to me.
I expected the action to last a little longer...
And also maybe Eren's rescue should of been a bit more difficult...
Because honestly - if you see what Levi does to the blonde Titan, it is tottaly unbelievable
because you end up saying "why the hell do we need Eren and his Titan form, when we have Levi over here...??"
As for the rest of the episode - i admit that i sat down and read the rest of the manga but i will NEVER reveal and spoilers, you have my word -
So guys, the rest of the episode was mostly filler,
But it was a GOOD filler,
meaning that, they give some explanation as to why they didnt bring the bodies of the dead with them when they returned to the city.
Its not a filler that has many things to say.
We see most of our heroes,
watching the bodies of the dead being piled up,
and they are all left wondering if they will be left alive the next day or if this is a cause worth fighting for,
and generally, everyone thinks about certain things about life and death.
We have a small incident where two soldiers want to reclaim the bodies of their friends but Levi and Erwin are not letting them,
and they are right say so, because the bodies are in Titan infested territory and if they go there, the Titans will end up following them.
So Erwin and Levi tell them not to do it, cause if they do, they will endanger the rest of the mission,
the soldiers do not obey ofc and they go and take the bodies anyway,
And as a result the Titans end up coming after them.
But at the end of the day, not only they dont manage to bring the bodies back and one of the soldiers gets killed as well,
but they also had to get rid of the rest of the bodies so that they could get away,
or else the cart where they were on would be too heavy and the Titans would catch them easily.
As they were dumping the bodies btw (and its there were the filler had some quality in my opinion)
one of the bodies was Petra, who died in the last episode if you remember,
I was sad about to see her die i must say, because she is a character who i wanted to see more,
and i believe that she died way too early.
So Petra is one of the bodies that is thrown over in order to reduce the weight of the cart,
and as her wrapped body falls onto the ground,
we see her face for a moment as it gets uncovered briefly,
Levi looks at this with his usual cold look,
But i think that despite that cold look, he has some feelings about this 100%
I dont believe that Levi is this cold hearted character that everyone says he is, i believe that he has feelings inside him,
but maybe he has gone through so many tough experiences in his life, that he manages to make his heart into stone and go on.
So yea, it was touching to see Levi looking at Petra like that, because it shows that Levi IS sad that he lost all of his men,
Even if he doesnt show it.
Note that Levi was hurt during his battle with the blone Titan, but not because he got careless,
but because he had to help Mikasa at some point.
So at the time when they are throwing away the bodies and the Titans attack them, he cannot do anything.
Because it seems that he is hurt in his right leg
Although its weird, because we see him being in some pain after his battle with the blonde Titan,
but he is riding his horse and walking normally despite the injury,
and this where they might have gotten careless with the filler,
because how the hell can he walk and ride a horse normally, yet he cant use his 3D gear when they have Titans in pursuit of them?
I think that the animators kind of messed up here.
And after ALL that, they return back to the city,
and we go to Eren who wakes up with Mikasa at his side,
(and i have to say again that Eren is very lucky to have a girl like that next to him, 100%)
And when Eren was unconsious, he remembered watching the members of the Scouting Corps with great admiration and thinking of them as heroes,
the thing is that this time, he is re-watching the whole scene from the other side, as a member of the Scouting Corps,
And he sees two kids who are watching them with the same admiration that Eren did when he was little,
and Eren feels extremely depressed and sad and wants to cry (he does do it actually),
and thats because he unravels a big truth,
and that truth is that there are no heroes in the Scouting Corps, instead there is only great loss and pain.
and this pain and loss isnt only among the members of the Scouting Corps,
but it is also among the many families of the soldiers who await their return with faces full of hope, but those soldiers never return home.
Its really heart breaking to see the families of the soldiers awaiting their return, only to find out that they will never come back home again...
Especially about Petra, when her father goes to find Levi,
and says to him various things about his daughter.
Her father is eagerly awaiting her return,
but Petra never returns and i felt very sorry for her father at that point.
This whole thing tells us a big truth regarding all the wars that have happened throughout our history,
in war there is no glory and no honor. There is only loss and pain at the end of the day.
And this episode reflects that truth in a perfect way.
And it really touched me.
And thats about it... we are reaching the end of the series and we have three episodes left,
but this arc is going to end properly from the looks of it.
I have to say that this episode, apart from the filler,
it also had some "rushed" parts as i said before, especially the battle of Levi and Mikasa against the blonde Titan,
in order to move on to the next series of events,
the filler is very good though for the most part, sit down and see it and i believe that you will like it.
Especially the last part of the episode,
where it shows the pain and the loss that exists during a war,
i believe that it will move you 100%,
and especially Eren's feelings, who sees the whole situation finally from both the perspectives,
and he learns some truths about this war.
And thats all folks, good episode, go watch it, i believe that you will like it,
i will be very sad to see Attack on Titan ending,
because its an amazing quality of animation that we see every weekend,
and i dont know if we will have a simillar experience among the new releases in the next anime season,
if you know anything, then please do tell me :)
And thats all folks, i will see you in my next review,
Take care and have a good time today,
I also wish a happy school year to everyone and anyone who starts this week,
And ill see you later, take care guys, bye-bye :)
