Social Policy
is the study of wellbeing
in society and how we improve that through social actions.
I've done a BSc in Social Policy,
I've enjoyed all of it really.
I enjoyed learning about different welfare systems around the world.
Childhood Studies is a multidisciplinary study
of children and families
with a view to considering children from 0 to 19 years.
I'm studying Early Childhood Studies
and it was the only course I found that really interested me
when I was reading the prospectuses.
I've always loved children and known I want to go into teaching eventually.
The course is multidisciplinary,
so it draws on lots of different subjects
and lots of different skills,
so I feel I've graduated with a large skill base.
SIMON: Students,
from the very start in their introductory year,
will do a comparative social policy unit
which gets students thinking about the ways that social policy's patterned
across the globe.
DEBBIE: A lot of the original programme was very rooted in UK policy
and practice with children and families,
so we have a remit and within every unit,
we're considering issues of perhaps global child poverty,
children's rights across the globe.
HANNAH: I do Social Policy
and Politics, so it's a joint-honours programme
and Yasmin does Social Policy, single honours,
and throughout our programme, we went on a study abroad
in our second year, for the second term, to Hong Kong.
I'd say it was the highlight of my degree.
Definitely.
AKIM: This year, we've learnt a lot about the European Union,
we've learnt about all the countries who've joined the European Union,
so new countries like Bulgaria.
DEBBIE: A third of our students
tend to go on to do PGCEs or school-based training
primarily as teachers,
but another third will go into child- and family-related work
and another third
use the degree as a good degree full stop.
SIMON: The point is that Social Policy can, if you want it to,
lead to a career in the public sector,
in local government, and about 30% of our students
will go on and do those sort of jobs.
The rest of our students go on to do a vast array of jobs.
LOUISE: In September, I'm coming back to Bristol
I'm working where I work now as a deputy manager
at a kids' after-school club.
And eventually, I want to do a PGCE and go into teaching.
HOLLY: Now I'm doing an internship in London
and then I'm doing a ski season
and then, I've got a good degree
and I'll be able to do whatever I want, I just need to decide what.
HANNAH: I'm doing advertising sales for a software company in London
and I start that in September.
AKIM: In the near future, I'd hope to do a masters in Social Policy,
then after that, I'd like to do law.
YASMIN: I've just got onto a fashion PR internship,
so I want to see what the fashion industry's all about.
HOLLY: I've had a brilliant three years.
Not only have I loved the course, I've loved Bristol, it's a vibrant city.
AKIM: I'm really ecstatic, I've had a great three years,
I've met some really good people.
It's been an amazing experience and one that we'll cherish.
EVERYONE: Whooo!
