After personnel costs, fuel costs are a huge expense for hauliers.
Insight into these costs enable you to adjust your decision-making.
To that end, Shell has developed FuelSave Partner.
It is a user-friendly and versatile system,
which gives an insight into fuel consumption,
the use of the truck and the driving performance of the driver.
The system provides reports, can give alerts
and offers options for improvement.
G. Vlug & Zn in Middenbeemster has used Shell Fuel Cards for some time
and immediately took an interest in this new system.
Since then, 165 trucks have been fitted with the equipment.
Once a month, financial director, Rico van Aggele,
analyses the reports and the results.
Fuel consumption has
always been a vital parameter.
But it was very hard to sort out
the differences between the drivers.
We analyse one million kilometers driven per month.
That's why you need a simple system -
a system which sends the truck data to you online.
You just have to familiarise yourself with the system.
Attention to idling has already led to considerable savings.
We have saved 35% on idling.
For Vlug, that equals 2,000 liters a month saved on idling.
Those numbers speak volumes,
especially when you also include other points of interest.
To know how the drivers feel about it, G Vlug has set up an inquiry.
It's funny.
At the inquiry, which we set up last month,
the system was awarded by the drivers with a 7.9 out of 10.
That's a fantastic result for,
basically, a system that could be Big Brother-like.
Driver Anthonie van Leersum has been using the system for two years.
He shares his employer's enthusiasm.
I experience the system as very easy to use.
We hardly need to do anything ourselves.
We insert our digital pass into our tachograph,
and everything starts automatically.
At the end of each month, we get a printout from our employer,
which states our performance and how much fuel we may have saved.
So that's easy.
In a number of ways,
you are coached on how to reduce your fuel consumption,
especially when accelerating,
by not flooring the gas pedal.
You can save a lot of fuel that way,
especially when rolling out, which doesn't require any fuel.
Those are two factors which have positively contributed to the result.
Vlug has chosen to discuss results with each driver individually.
It's not about a competition among the drivers,
but rather about personal improvement.
The driver reports are an important guideline.
All in all, the system offers ample options for improvement.
The experience of other participating companies confirms this.
For our clients
in the transport industry, the margins are paper-thin.
After wages, fuel is the primary debit entry -
up to 25% in some cases.
We believe that you can easily save up to 10% on fuel.
That is a lot for hauliers.
We see that hauliers work very hard,
but sometimes you wonder whether they shouldn't focus more
on fuel management, on controlling their fuel costs...
There is a lot to gain.
But the insight is lacking, and that is where the system comes in.
For that reason, refuelling at the home tank can also be included.
This enables comprehensive control of all the fuel in the tank
and the use of the truck.
Any differences result in a warning
